Same-Sex Marriage Hits Red Light in Blue Illinois
Townhall ^ | 06/04/2013 | Sandy Rios

Posted on 06/04/2013 8:02:13 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

What same-sex marriage advocates won in the Illinois Senate on Valentine’s Day 2013 was just reversed. After weeks and months of hard work to accomplish what should have been easy, gay Democrat sponsor Greg Harris could not muster the votes, while Democratic Speaker of the House, Michael Madigan, did not even call for a vote to establish same sex marriage in Illinois.

“Today a broad grassroots coalition of Illinois families of Faith of all creeds and colors took on all the Illinois political bosses from Washington to the Governor’s Mansion to Chicago’s City Hall who tried to pay back the homosexual community for their political support,” said Paul Caprio, Spokesman for the Coalition to Protect Children & Marriage.

Throughout the day, same-sex marriage proponents hammered the Speaker relentlessly, threatening to withhold support for his daughter, Attorney General Lisa Madigan, a gubernatorial hopeful.

Equality Illinois and other groups brought in celebrities and generated thousands of phone calls. Governor Pat Quinn pushed hard, purportedly offering back room deals to members of the Black Caucus. But under the leadership of a former Democrat Senator -- the Reverend James Meeks --and Bishop Lance Davis, black legislators pushed back.

Representative Monique Davis, when asked by the Sun Times if same-sex marriage is a civil rights issue, said, “Have they ever hung from trees? Were they ever slaves for 500 years? Then I don’t think so.”

“I don’t think (the issues are) equal… simple as that,” she explained. “African-American people have the same right to be conservative on issues that everybody else has.”

With Chicago Mayor Rahm Emmanuel, Obama advisor David Axelrod, Republican State Chairman Pat Brady, Republican Senator Mark Kirk, the Chicago media, and hometown favorite President Barack Obama lobbying hard for the measure, it was a stunning defeat.

The battle in Illinois began just before Christmas 2012, when same-sex marriage activists moved to call a vote during the holidays. Twelve family groups quickly formed the “Coalition to Protect Children & Families.” In an unprecedented act of cooperation, the Illinois Family Institute rallied thousands to the capitol and Family PAC made over 600,000 calls into legislative districts.

While pastors held breakfasts, the National Organization for Marriage gave financial support and provided expert testimony in Springfield with Dr. Jennifer Rohrbach Morse on the troubling side of same-sex marriage. Cardinal Francis George wrote and spoke with conviction against the proposal, as did Bishop Thomas John Paprocki of Springfield. Churches rallied and, in spite of the odds, to the surprise of Chicago media and the much better resourced gay lobby, pro-traditional family forces stopped the vote.

In the end, it came down to enormous pressure on twenty black Democratic legislators.

“I think after President Obama came out as a supporter of equal marriage there was a belief that it would be a no-brainer,” Representative Christian Mitchell said. “But I don’t think folks properly understood the influence and role of the church as it relates to African-American politics.”

Illinois is the first state to stop the gay marriage momentum since North Carolina in 2012.

Representative Monique Davis, when asked by the Sun Times if same-sex marriage is a civil rights issue, said, “Have they ever hung from trees? Were they ever slaves for 500 years? Then I don’t think so.”

Right answer, wrong reason.

There has never been a "right" to marry.

Marriage has historically been an obligation two people undertook prior to engaging in activities that might reasonably be expected to lead to children, for the purposes of maximizing the odds of those children growing up to be productive members of society.

Since nothing two homosexuals can do can be expected to produce children, the whole concept of homosexual "marriage" is null and void.

The legislature and governor here (Illinois) has already forced “civil unions” on us, it’s only a matter of time before we have queer marriage.

Any concealed carry law we finally get will be a joke.

In the 37 states where queer marriage was put to a vote by the citizens, it has been defeated. Put it to a vote by the people democrat perverts.

Dirty Little Secret.....the African-American community are STILL not fans of this.

True, in spite of the the thuggery that is so prevalent in black youth gangs a very large segment of the black American community is composed of fundamentalist, bible believing Christians who still believe in the Christian God and His moral laws.

Thank God for those people, they may be the last large group of Americans to stand firm for God's laws when the white population has become almost totally reprobate, and IMHO that day isn't very far off.

IIRC, wasn’t there a professor who was African American who got upset about homosexual attraction being compared to race? I think that was in 2007 or 2008. Anyways, I haven’t heard of skin color being a closet condition. It’s not something people have to come out about on a regular basis.

Marriage is perhaps, aside from government intrusion, among the biggest cases of surrendering rights a person ever goes through.

When you marry, you surrender your individual ownership of much of your property.

When you marry, you surrender your property to get split up and confiscated from you on conditions of divorce happening.

When you marry, you surrender plenty of leisure and free time for the sake of doing activities that you probably enjoyed doing alone. (Goodbye to playing video games alone for hours on end, because your spouse, and don’t get me started on the children, will demand hours of time out of you, in addition to your work time.)

When you marry, you surrender responsibility for just yourself, you now get held responsible for your spouse, and any children you either have born into the marriage or adopt.

Again, there’s a reason why plenty of people cohabitate, including many homosexual couples nowadays as well, and it’s likely for this very reason that marriage in reality is less a right as opposed to a surrendering of rights and personal freedom that you would otherwise have being single or simply living with your love interest.

Any concealed carry law we finally get will be a joke.

Correct! Which is why you should find a qualified gun instructor familiar with Utah's conceal/carry permit requirements and have that person train and certify you for a Utah Conceal/Carry permit.

A little known secret in Illinois' conceal/carry law is that other states conceal/carry permits will be VALID in Illinois.

If you want to avoid the wait to get a conceal/carry permit in Illinois, get trained, qualify for, and apply for a Utah conceal/carry Permit. Illinois will honor it as soon as you get it and as soon as the Illinois law is signed.

Once Quinn signs the Conceal/Carry law (as flawed as it is..) there will be a FLOOD of folks here in Illinois applying for the permit. Having a UTAH permit enables you to conceal/carry right away in Illinois for at least the first year. That'll be plenty of time to formally apply through Illinois while still being able to carry here.

Check out the Illinois State Rifle Association website for the details.

There are a lot of white politicians that are against SSM as well. If we’re to win this we need a broad outreach across both groups.

The whites, as well as black, politicians against SSM or wavering need data and arguments to back up their positions.

I think the best argument to date is the number of same sex ‘civil unions’ performed since legalization and their current status. The ss civil unions can play an important role in this fight as an indicator of the social effects and true norms of the SS lifestyle.

A little graphic, but Thank You for someone killing the comparison between the "struggles" of gays and the struggles of blacks in this country.

Frankly, people that compare interracial marriage with gay marriage are overly simplistic(*) and a little bit racist.

Yes, I said the people are simplistic, as well as that argument.

Amen and Amen!

Now for Illinois Freepers — **PLEASE** send Rep. Monique Davis a letter of thanks. What I say in Missouri won't matter anywhere near as much to her as white conservative Republicans telling her, “Hey, we don't agree on everything, but you voted right on this issue and we want you to know we're very happy with your vote to defy your party and the position of President Obama on homosexuality.”

This is the way the National Rifle Association wins battles — making coalitions with conservative Democrats and even pro-gun Democrats who may not be conservative on other issues.

If the conservatives can win on homosexuality in places like California and Illinois, against incredible odds, hope is not yet lost.

Victory means reaching beyond traditional conservative groups to get people who agree with us on moral issues to vote the right way on moral issues, despite the pressure put on them by their own godless party leadership.

And look at this bio — if she is a member of the same Trinity UCC that I think she is, she is a **MEMBER OF BARACK OBAMA'S FORMER CHURCH!!!!!**

http://www.housedem.state.il.us/members/davism/

“Davis is a lifelong resident of Chicago and a mother of two. Davis was formerly a teacher and administrator in the Chicago Public Schools. She also served as a coordinator for the Chicago Board of Education and was a training specialist with the Chicago City Colleges. Davis continues her active involvement with several community and charitable organizations: she is a member of the NAACP, Operation Push, Phi Delta Kappa, Trinity United Church of Christ, Chicago Urban League and Beverly Area Planning Association.”

And amazingly, it look like Rev. Jeremiah Wright didn't succeed in convincing all of his members to turn their backs on God's Word with regard to all issues...

For Christians, marriage is ordained of God. For the rest of the world it’s the natural result of human reproduction. Government had to come second.

It’s one of my special gifts.

Consider a clan/tribe consists of three unrelated pairs of parents, their children, and a few surviving grandparents, all run by one guy.

Does that group have a government (monarchy)?

If so, do the two families not related to the leader have a government while the third, related family does not?

Just wait 'til ETERNITY kicks in!!

Genesis 13:13
Now the men of Sodom were wicked and were sinning greatly against the LORD.

Genesis 18:20-21
20. Then the LORD said, "The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and
their sin so grievous
21. that I will go down and see if what they have done is as bad as the outcry that has reached me. If not, I will know."

Genesis 19:4-7
4. Before they had gone to bed, all the men
from every part of the city of Sodom--both young and old--surrounded the house.
5. They called to Lot, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them
."
6. Lot went outside to meet them and shut the door behind him
7. and said, "No, my friends. Don't do this wicked thing.

Psalms 12:8 The wicked freely strut about when what is vile is honored among men.

Doonesbury Cartoon for Feb/08/2013

Isaiah 3:9 The look on their faces testifies against them; they parade their sin like Sodom; they do not hide it. Woe to them! They have brought disaster upon themselves.

2 Peter 2:13b Their idea of pleasure is to carouse in broad daylight. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their pleasures while they feast with you.

Ezekiel 16:49-50
49. "`Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy.
50. They were haughty and did detestable things before me. Therefore I did away with them as you have seen.

2 Peter 2

1. But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them--bringing swift destruction on themselves.
2. Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute.
3. In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.
4. For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them into gloomy dungeons to be held for judgment;
5. if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others;
6. if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly;
7. and if he rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the filthy lives of lawless men
8. (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard)--
9. if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue godly men from trials and to hold the unrighteous for the day of judgment, while continuing their punishment.
10. This is especially true of those who follow the corrupt desire of the sinful nature and despise authority. Bold and arrogant, these men are not afraid to slander celestial beings;
11. yet even angels, although they are stronger and more powerful, do not bring slanderous accusations against such beings in the presence of the Lord.
12. But these men blaspheme in matters they do not understand. They are like brute beasts, creatures of instinct, born only to be caught and destroyed, and like beasts they too will perish.
13. They will be paid back with harm for the harm they have done.
Their idea of pleasure is to carouse in broad daylight. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their pleasures while they feast with you.

But there IS hope!!!

1 Corinthians 6:9-11

9. Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived:
Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders
10. nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
11. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

If you could NOT change, you would be in most pitiful shape...
