Chris Christie calls for Special Election in October to fill Lautenberg seat(Christie votes Present)
legalinsurrection.com ^ | 6-4-2013 | William A. Jacobson

He just held a news conference.
He could have appointed someone to serve until 2014. Instead, the election will be October 16, 2014. The primaries will be August 13.
He would not comment on who he would appoint to serve until then.
Video when available.
I don’t understand all the nuances of NJ politics, so hopefully readers can add local color in the comments.

Christie splits baby: D's get speedy special elex (could have waited 18 mo),GOP likely gets placeholder Sen & no Booker on ballot in Nov
— Guy Benson (@guypbenson) June 4, 2013

Christie's decision is all about 2013 reelect, and about seeming populist/bipartisan about his course of action ("voice" "choice")
— Robert Costa (@robertcostaNRO) June 4, 2013

Christie says waiting 10 days to appoint & then having the special in Nov would've been "playing politics." Well then…
— Scott Conroy (@RealClearScott) June 4, 2013

Christie says he'll fill the seat "on the merits." won't commit to Republican but "I do have a preference for one party over the other…"

He didn’t want Cory Booker on the ballot with him in November to reduce his share of the vote. That simple.

Jersey needs to recall Christie. He’s an abomination.

He's up for re-election in a few months. If I were a Mosquito Stater, I'd vote for Christie's Democratic opponent before I would vote to re-elect that coward.

Now we know why oboma recently met with Cristie on the Jersey shore. Cristy was given his orders.

Christie needs to be replaced. He's doing more harm than good. Had he chosen to appoint, a Republican incumbent would have been harder to beat later.

He would like to appoint a democrat. But that would hurt his presidential ambitions.

So - a punt.

Consider his other options - putting up another “RINO” or going four-square whole hog and naming a known and designated NJ-type Democrat. (Jon Corzine? Or maybe we can call back Jim McGreevey...)

Whoever is elected in this special election stands a better than even chance of extending that into a full term in the next election for which that person would be eligible.

Personally, I would have preferred that Robert Torricelli had been named. That is perhaps the most honest thing that could have been done.

My guess is that he’ll name Tom Kean Sr. as a place holder.

"Actually, the Dems won’t like this because there chances would be greater in 2014."

This splits up the NJ Democrat machine effort over three -- off year -- elections; the special primary in August (Cory Booker isn't the only Democrat who has expressed interested in Lautenberg's Senate seat), the special Senate election in October, and the regular state election in November. Christie's strategy should maximize the chances of a Republican Senate seat pickup in the special election in October, maximize Christie's vote total in November, and maximize the Republican vote for NJ state Senate and Assembly elections in November. The Democrats should be howling.

Once there was a politician that was just as corrupt, just as progressive... just as pro union... just as pro redistribution of wealth... just as big of a big government... political “bossman” and just as back stabbing as crispie creme... as a matter of fact... they called him the “Little Fat Man”. One thing that Huey P. Long was not... he was not as fat as crispie creme. They both have quite a bit in common... including having a bromance with a sitting president... with a major natural disaster for a backdrop.

“The river rose all day
The river rose all night
Some people got lost in the flood
Some people got away alright
The river have busted through clear down to Plaquemines
Six feet of water in the streets of Evangeline

snip

President Coolidge came down in a railroad train
With a little fat man with a note-pad in his hand (Huey)
The President say, “Little fat man isn't it a shame what the river has done
To this poor crackers land.”

I remember it well. Judge Napalitano (from NJ) stated that the law in NJ is exactly what the Supreme Court of NJ says that it is... regardless of what you think the law says.

And yet we know that the GOP Ruling Class co-conspirators with the MarxoFascists have already told us via their Propagandists in the MSM, that Chris Christie is the GOP nominee for President in 2016.

They are (as Mark Levin rightly noted yesterday) doing the same thing the GOP-e did with Romney. Christie is the GOP standard.

Why anyone who loves America, the Constitution and our rights would consider voting for the GOP - is beyond my capacity to comprehend. Except that Jefferson noted in the Declaration that people will suffer evil, while evil is sufferable rather than right themselves and throw off those evils they have become accustomed.

Conservatives need a new party - or forever be rendered irrelevant by the Judenrats in the GOP.

NJ loves crispie creme... there is not one dim that they could elect as Governor... that could do the job that crispie creme is doing... for the dim party and obama.

I agree, this should be an opportunity for a Republican pick up. It will be a low voter turn out election, the IRS scandal is still hot, and conservatives are pissed off. I think it was a good move.

What are you talking about?

I’m not anti-semitic at all. Please do yourself a favor, Google ‘Judenrat’ and understand why I am using it in the context of referencing the Ruling Class GOP Leadership with the MarxoFascist Democrats.

You will then understand the political analogy I am trying to draw.
