Zhang Ming, a political scientist from China’s Renmin University, predicted Mrs Obama’s absence would “not go down very well” in Beijing.

“First lady diplomacy is also very important and the US side has failed to cooperate,” he said. “According to normal diplomatic etiquette this is very strange. It shouldn’t be like this.”

I’m with you Ming. The whole Obama administration has been very strange and it shouldn’t be like this. : )

“But on Tuesday Mrs Obama’s office told the New York Times the first lady would remain in Washington with her daughters who are coming to the end of their academic year. “

Doesn’t EVERYONE’S KIDS come to the end of their academic year about this time? They can’t both be ‘seniors’ so It’s not like it’s a ‘graduation’ ceremony.

Pretty scathing criticism there.

There may be a point in defying the Chinese on a matter of principle. They may not like it, but they could respect it.

But this is just dumb insolence. It gains nothing except conforming the uncultured american image.

In one single act Michelle has undone any amused affection the Chinese might have felt for Barack Obowma without erasing the original humiliation.

A non-picture of Michelle not at the reception does not match
