Society decays because citizens are not vested in its success, rather what we see today is the mentality that their success ( leisure, ease of life and no sweat equity) is to be obtained at the expense of those who are actually successful-and that is a one way ticket to economic and social collapse. The military duty of all citizens should be made clear, as much as the need to do right and be productive. What is happening today is the burdens are being borne by fewer and fewer real men and women, so our society is at risk of collapse from the users demand on the rest of us.
Call that statist if you wish, but do not consider service to country anything similar. It is called service for a reason.
Not all government functions are statist, but they certainly all can be.
We do agree that probably 80% of the federal government needs to be carefully excised with a chainsaw, however.
