The Spiritual Significance of Tornado Dog and Sewer Pipe Baby

If you’re like me, you’re a news and politics junkie who follows current events with obsessive, hawkish vigilance. Sometimes, the never-ending outrages pouring in make you just shake your head with exasperation, wondering how so much can be so wrong, so often, everywhere.

But certain events are like sudden, brilliant beacons of light and hope in an abyss of darkness and despair. They remind us that sometimes when all appears to be irredeemably lost, God has other ideas.

In fact, that’s basically the entire message of Christianity: ”The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone” (Psalm 118:22, Luke 20:17).

Having troubles, setbacks, discouragement, and rejection in your life? Disaster and ruin and heartbreak and loss? If so, don’t necessarily trust your own assessment of the situation, not entirely anyway. Stay tuned and stay ready. You might be surprised.

I know, I know, I’m coming across like Joel Osteen here. Just zip it and read.

I’m sure that almost no one reading this missed the wonderful video from the aftermath of one of the recent apocalyptic-scale tornadoes in Oklahoma: An old lady who had survived was being interviewed by a reporter and camera crew, while standing in the piles of utter wreckage of what had been her home.

She talked about how she had cradled her dog in her arms as the tornado approached, and she replied to the reporter’s anxious questioning with the paradoxically humble/defiant faith of her decades of Bible-belt, tornado-alley survival.

Presumably, her poor doggie didn’t make it, because the canine is nowhere to be seen in the frame. After a minute or so of question-and-answer, suddenly a news crew member exclaims, “The dog! The dog!”

Sure enough, just behind where the old lady stands, her little gray

The woman praises God again and again in her relief and joy, saying He had answered her prayers; first for her own survival, and secondly for that of her dog.
So her God allowed the dog to survive, but other humans to die - including children. Hmmmmm ...

"Tornado Dog and Sewer Pipe Baby"

Sounds like a good name for a high school garage band...

God allows things for His purposes. The reasons aren’t always clear to us.

Mysterious ways?

Additionally mysterious and seemingly sign-like is the fact that the TV crew just happened to be there and rolling when the little doggie was discovered and rescued. It definitely didn’t come across as staged at all. Almost like God was showing off, eh.

Actually I’m thinking that the pup heard voices and tried to get their attention.

As opposed to what? What are you fishing for?

By the grace of God the dog survived and heard it's owners voice and responded.

Right; when all else fails, BLAME GOD. That’s the ticket. - Maybe sometimes YE HAVE NOT, BECAUSE YE ASK NOT. - Maybe, too, death is not what you’re thinking it is.

So your God is all controlling right down to letting a dog live or die.
What's the sense of living if it's all pre-ordained and/or out of our control?

It is our moral reaction that is free choice and the point of our existence, regardless of whether anything else is preordained.

Grumpy! Hush! - Go eat a good meal; maybe it’ll help that grumpy disposition - with ice-cream for dessert.

You run out of arguments and so now I'm grumpy?
Stop and think ... if God is omnipotent and created Man in his own image, why wouldn't He allow us to live our own lives?
But if He does "stick His nose in" from time to time to answer prayers, why did he allow Adolf Hitler to start a war that ultimately killed 50 million people?

Have you considered Satan, oh8?

If not, maybe you should.

It is hard for us humans to wrap our heads around a fight/battle between the forces of those who strive for good, and those who eagerly succumb to evil, so they can have power over others.

I have no answers, but I sense the battle going on in our political life, and in our individual lives. My sense is that Satan is alive and well, and creates havoc wherever he can, either in our personal lives, or in our political lives.

It is so easy to blame others for our own faults, isn’t it.

So according to you, Satan created Hitler (and Satan too for that matter), but your God was incapable of stopping him?
God saves the dog, but not the 50 MILLION who died in WWII? Wow, some god.

God has a perfect will and a permissive will and in Hitler and the killing of the Jews, He exercised His permissive will. He allowed that for reasons not made known to us. His perfect will would have been for it never to happen but it did and we may not know the reason why till eternity.

Don’t think for a New York second that God is not sovereign! He is working out everything for our good and His glory. You are looking thru the glass darkly now, oh8.....we walk by faith and not by sight...and we are not guaranteed all the answers in this life.

He does allow us to live our own lives. Our choices from the get-go have pretty much stank. - Things are winding down; man’s attempts at self-governance are ending; like it or lump it. As we have been forewarned in Scriptures, the trumpets of the book of Revelation are sounding; most have surely already sounded (WWI, WWII, Nuclear disasters, Wars, - with WWIII looming if not already upon us).

We ARE created beings; things are the way they are whether or not it meets with our approval. - So, I prefer to call upon the name of Jesus Christ to be saved from all these things that must soon come to pass and to be able to stand before the Son of Man on the Day that is surely coming; and coming soon.
