“1100 years ago the incident of category five hurricanes along the Gulf Coast was much higher. No-one knows why they decreased then and remain so to this day.”

Joe Bastardi says weather cycles repeat themselves. He said if some happen this June, they will start in the Gulf since the water is already warm enough. Now we have Andrea.

I'm prepared if one hits right now in Galveston, I just prefer it not to happen. I'll have power and fans going but that isn't as good as air conditioning. Well, whatever happens, happens and I'm read for whatever it is.

Hmmmm, I’m set to go camping this weekend in Uwharrie NF in NC. Weather calls for scattered thunderstorms for the weekend.

We’ll see.

"What artifacts did they use to arrive at this conclusion? What strata?"

Beach sand blown into inland fresh water lakes.

this is not a Live thread....And if it doesn’t become one, we will have endless ones on this storm.

Do you remember the 5 Dean threads we had to have back in ‘07?

That was crazy. I was known as txflake back then, I let Jim choose my new FRname... true story.

Hurricane Dean was a bad one. I always wondered if that was you with both screen names.

No, it was just across a 50 mile front.

Only reason I comment at all is because next spring they will ominously claim how many named storms there were and how close they came. And doggone it you people, climate change is making more named storms,

So when you give names to disturbances that are barely noreasters, they can use these little digs that something needs to be done. Could be wrong but since science has been coopted by ideologues, I don’t trust any of them.

So when you give names to disturbances

Who is "you"? I don't assign names to tropical storms.

It is widely accepted that all tropical storms are not Category 5, and nobody at the NHC or in this thread is trying to imply the same.

However, this storm is packed with rainfall, and is currently creeping at 3mph. Slow moving tropical storms like this can cause tremendous rainfall totals and deadly flooding. In fact, we are expecting 5+ inches of rain in the Tampa Bay area within 24 hours. If you are bothered by a name assigned to this storm system, file your complaint with the NHC.

From the be careful what you wish for department.....
Just last week I told my daughter “we need rain so badly”, guess I didn’t expect it all to come within a 3 day period! (sigh)

Yep. I was txculprit - fiancee’s last name, Culp - then when DC shooter started I thought my name was too weird as Peach and I (amongst thousands of others) were tracking it.

I asked Jim to change my name to either yo-yo (my nephew’s nick for me) or flake. He chose flake.

Then I asked him again the night zero was elected to change it to hurl.

Long story short, you CAN change your name if you ask. I suspect my next request will be txmars, I’m that disgusted.

Thank goodness, I'm now 'rigged' for AC if the power goes out.

Yeah, but Pat is in Virginia Beach and it’s heading our way.

Just in time to rain out Norfolk’s “Harborfest.”

Better mow today.

Geez...we have had probably 4 inches of rain here in the upstate of SC since yesterday! I don’t think we can take much more from Andrea. My poor back yard looks like a swamp...ahhh reminds me of home (MS)
