High School Valedictorian Stuns Audience After He Rips Up Speech and Delivers the Lord’s Prayer

Roy Costner IV, a former public school student from South Carolina, stunned the audience at his high school graduation last weekend when he ripped up his previously-approved valedictorian speech, going on, instead, to speak about God — and then deliver the Lord’s prayer.

The act, which drew loud applause, was taken in opposition to the School District of Pickens County’s decision to axe prayers from graduation events, Christian News reports. Officials said that they had recently received complaints from atheist activists and church-state separatists, leading to the removal of invocations from all school events.

But that didn’t stop Costner.

The Liberty High School ceremony is already making its way into national headlines, as the valedictorian’s actions and the subsequent cheers this past Saturday were caught on video.

As he spoke, Costner went from merely mentioning “the Lord” to jumping right into the well-known prayer.

“Those that we look up to, they have helped carve and mold us into the young adults that we are today. I’m so glad that both of my parents led me to the Lord at a young age,” he said. “And I think most of you will understand when I say –”

And that’s when he commenced the popular invocation.

“Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name,” Costner continued. “Thy Kingdom come…”

Throughout the entirety of the prayer, cheers and clapping raged.

I’m surprised the school Marxists didn’t turn off the mic and shut down all power.

I think this is a neat story, but I believe the applause was more likely for the pook in the eye of the administration than the actual content. Great story just the same.

Probably because it's South Carolina

I think all the attendees are now required to commit suicide.

Or, as the Left calls it, post-birth abortion by personal choice.

Kids will always find away.
When my youngest graduated from high school the valedictorian, gave a speech about a super super hero...funny and informative.
He ended the speech by saying “Does anyone know who I am talking about?”, most of the students stood up and shouted “Jesus Christ”, people broke out in applauds.
Kids will always find away, they are not yet stymied.

The point is we all have the Right to publically speak of God.

We may be offended by Allah prayers, but they have the Right here in our country to pray to him in public.

When I was in High School, we were a rebellious lot who had a goal of delivering a subversive speech that would piss off the faculty.

It's nice to see that the present generation has not lost that spirit.

It's just sad to realize that reciting the Lord's Prayer is considered subversive, rebellious speech in today's sick and twisted environment.

Orwell said it best,” Speaking the Truth in times of universal deceit is a revolutionary act”

You go dude, Viva la revolución!

It would be OK, just as long as he was wielding a machete.
