Kirk Douglas: America is a 'Cowboy Country with too Many Guns'
Breitbart's Big Hollywood ^ | June 5, 2013 | Staff

Kirk Douglas looks around America these days and he sees too many guns.

The 96-year-old actor, best known for performances in classic films like Spartacus, Paths of Glory and Lust for Life, took to the cyber pages of The Huffington Post to call for more gun control--and far less guns.

I often played the good cowboy on screen, riding in to save the day. Now, everybody thinks he is a cowboy too. That frightens me. We have become a cowboy country with too many guns....

I cannot understand the people who are against some form of gun control. They should be the first to welcome a message on making it more difficult to get a gun. Many of them seem to propose more guns being available to everybody. Why? Are they interested in making more money for the gun manufacturers? Are they politicians who just want to oppose the president in anything he endorses? It's incomprehensible to me.

Nice coming from an immigrant to the USA from Bohemia. Come on in Douglas and criticize the nation that gave you a way of life you could never imagine from that Eastern European Hellhole.

Michael has his shares of violence and guns in movies. Like his movie Falling Down.

Has Mr Douglas ever appeared in a movie that wasn’t violent?

‘Lust for Life’? He strained really hard to play Vincent Van Gogh.

Just like most libs, when they can help him, he’s all for guns and violence - things he bashes in regular life.

Hollywood owns the vast majority of all the fully automatic firearms in the US. There’s a reason that most actors assume there are too many in the US.

Thanks. A still from my favorite Kirk Douglas movie: Lonely Are The Brave

Filmed in Albuquerque the year we moved there. Great movie and a great town in the 60’s.

Not true Mr. Douglas, gang bangers in big cities, a small minority of the population, shoot people with guns. Most legal gun owning folks, including the many real cowboys I know only shoot for recreation, hunting, or to protect themselves against criminals.

I don’t know about Kirk’s speaking talent, but I hear his Son is a Cunning Linguist.

.

Kirk Douglas’ life is a true American story.

He was born of parents who were dirt poor Jewish immigrants,
enlisted in the United States Navy in 1941, shortly after the United States entered World War II. (He was medically discharged for war injuries in 1944.)
Coming from a poor family, as a boy Douglas worked on his father’s ‘rag cart’, sold snacks to mill workers to earn enough to buy milk and bread. Later, he delivered newspapers and worked at more than forty jobs educating himself and becoming an actor.

He started out by doing bit parts in radio and on stage- and through hard work and perseverance, became one of the biggest classic stars of all time- an American legend.

I think this old gentleman has earned our respect, admiration and certainly our appreciation for the wonderful body of entertainment he has left us.
He does not deserve the nasty remarks on this forum.

I beg to differ. I think what we need are more Clint Eastwoods and fewer Kirk Douglas’s.
