HAYWARD -- An elementary school will hold a toy gun exchange Saturday, offering students a book and a chance to win a bicycle if they turn in their play weapons.
Strobridge Elementary Principal Charles Hill maintains that children who play with toy guns may not take real guns seriously.
"Playing with toys guns, saying 'I'm going to shoot you,' desensitizes them, so as they get older, it's easier for them to use a real gun," Hill said.

Well, they’d be real unhappy with my 9 year old girl’s scoped BB gun.
Yeah, teaching them that guns are inherently evil is perfectly fine.
Poor kids, my seven year old has a plastic arsenal
Overreach. Standard Operational Procedure of the Left. In Hayward I’d imagine it will work though.
Is this in Massachusetts?
This doesn’t verge on the ridiculous, It IS ridiculous.
I played with toy guns when I was a kid 60 years ago and I take guns very seriously.
Is this guy for real?
What a frigging idiot.
Now we have kids getting suspended for eating a cookie that looks like a gun and this fool is having a toy gun buy back.
Give me a frigging break.
I cannot believe the Bullshyt that some people put out.
So many Americans shooting up the place I’m these last 39 years right? All those kids raised around guns were so bad for us, eh?
I thought there was zero tolerance these days!!!!
How can these little squirms get away with bringing a toy gun to a school sanctioned event?
The local police should raid the event and arrest some teachers for contributing to the delinquency...
It’s a trap!
They’re going to arrest all the kids that show up - zero tolerance ya know. They want to justify holding cells at the school.
How about offering the kids a better deal than a “buy back”? I bet it would drive the gun grabbers nuts.
They can exchange their cheesy looking toy guns for better toy guns. It likely wouldn’t cost much, but would be purely for entertainment value.
LOL ... gmta, but you can type faster than I can :o)
The goal seems to be to bring each generation of children closer to the level of the Eloi in “The Time Machine.”
A new level of stupid. If a kid brings in his bright orange squirt gun to school. Does he get a book, a chance on the bike and suspension for bringing the toy gun to school?
Women run the education system, males are evil and need to be feminized.
What the school really needs is an educator exchange
Training them, eh?
I suggest that boys with dolls and dresses be encouraged to exchange them for footballs and baseballs. Think the school board would approve THAT? /s;)
Hey, that was my idea! :^) saw your note
I’d wager they don’t care if they get one toy gun. The important part is to demonize guns in the minds of these poor little kids.
I hope one of them doesn’t point a finger at someone. Swat could kill someone...
