THE White House has confirmed that US intelligence agencies have been collecting data held by Facebook, Google, Apple and other web giants for nearly six years in a bid to ward off threats to national security.
The confirmation of a classified program giving agents access to material stored by some of the biggest internet companies was triggered by a report in The Guardian claiming that the National Security Agency (NSA) has had direct access to the servers used by web giants like Facebook and Google since 2007.

Like Us On NSABook
To all of my friends who cannot believe I’m not on Facebook “like everybody else”.
Ha! Double ha!
Yeah....
The US MSM only took this up cuz UK journos did first.
The US Legacy Media is just an extension of the government.
Always thought facebook was just plain creepy.
I have facebook but I have not posted anything political, or picture or anything about. I just go there to feed my animals on Farmville =) What would ODumbo be afraid of, with me visiting my farm?
Yep.
I think it’s actually clever and informative the way Obama claimed nobody is sitting there reading our emails or listening to our phone calls.
I’m sure that’s automated. If some media is red-flagged, then I figure a human gets involved. And yet the public will largely fall for this hook line and sinker.
Double dog “ha” to mine. I don’t have one and never will.
>> the people they are going after aren’t the ones blowing pressure cookers up at Marathons.
No, and they can’t even STOP the ones blowing up pressure cookers at Marathons.
I guess those guys were tech-averse underground hermits with no web presence, eh?
Oh wait...
When you sign up they basically bug your browsing experience. You don’t have to post anything there. They know where you go and what you post everywhere else.
Facebook? Google?
What are those?
They might want to know where on your farm you’ve buried your guns;)
I got on there because a friend wanted me to and I never go there - the page is blank. I read other friend’s pages when I got on there and I’m not interested in “I got up this morning and had coffee.” “I’m going shopping.” It was what I call, “panty hose talk”, and I’m not interested. It is a waste of time so I don’t go there.
I don’t use google for anything.
Always thought facebook was just plain creepy.
Same here.
Do you REALLY believe Obama is limiting his espianage to only Google and Facebook?
I suspect that special attention (AKA "targeting") is paid to subscibers of Rush Limbaugh, Hannity, FoxNews clickers and anybody who visits and/or comments on conservative blogs.
All to divert attention from Benghazi.
What was going at at Benghazi? Were arms supplied to Al Qaeda?
Never liked FacePalm anyway....
And I know of four marriages, just in my circle of friends and family, that have been weakened to the point of divorce by someone one or the other spouse met on facebook.
3 out of the 4 times it was an ex boyfriend/girlfriend that contacted them after 20 or 25 years. Just for old times sake.
Do you think they don’t know you’re here?
Can they put us all in prison?
I don’t care. I post articles that I find on FR regularly on my FB page (although I don’t post from FR, I only use the original sources).
If the government wants me, they can come and get me.
Notice they’re so desperate that they admit what they’ve been doing? Then the hammer falls, and they say it’s been going on for six years, so it’s obviously okay. I mean, Bush did it.
It’s like gunrunner. Under Bush the program was run tightly and kept under control
Under Obama these things become flagrant violations of the law. Now this being the case, I think Congress should come up with new laws they won’t follow. /s
Do you really think the NSA isn’t monitoring FR and knows who “Monitor” is?
All? No.
Do you have a kid that needs chemotherapy? A parent who might need bypass surgery?
Why do you think they wanted absolute control over the medical care in this country?
I’ve heard similar stories. Pretty disgusting.
I don’t even know how to Tweet.
We’re becoming a robot society. I bet there are many who really don’t care about Big Brother intrusion into their lives.
Social media, in and of itself, isn’t bad. Properly used, as with all communication, it is a solid good.
I use it to stay in touch with friends, to exchange information and opinion in a way that others can look in on and learn, to organize real-life social, church, and political activities, to show where you went on trips, etc.
Yes, there are people who can post inane things - usually they don’t last long on my feed.
Yes, the various companies offering social media websites are doing damn creepy things with them. That’s a big problem.
Having her own farm and produce, she’s obviously a militant survivalist living off the grid.
;]
Anybody that doesn't think Free Republic hasn't been monitored since its inception is kidding themselves.
FYI, if you transmit a digital signal (cell phone, telephone, internet, any radio, you might as well assume that the government collects and catologs it. Odds are pretty high that it has been.
True. It does give an avenue of contact that wouldn’t have existed in any form 30 years ago.
A former ex boyfriend/girlfriend wouldn’t have just ‘popped by the house’ for a visit while the spouse was not there. And the social venues you might have met them at were also populated by people who knew you and your spouse.
It happened. It was just more difficult and not nearly as ‘anonymous’ and ‘secretive’ as it is with facebook.
Good points.
FR is just one of many being monitored.
F U B O !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thank you, BA, i didn’t know that.
i have a barebones FB page-—
apparently, that puts me at risk.
Anybody who thinks they can post on freerepublic with impunity better think again. I’m sure they have been looking at freepers posts since at least 2008. This administration can’t be trusted for anything.
Yet you're here, bet you bottom dollar FR is just as accessible as well as monitored to the probing commie bass turds.
Think about it ;)
We shouldn’t have to feel like this in our own country. This is the United States of America damn it. Today I feel like crying.
Great post FRiend, I heartily concur.
Nice to see you as always, hope all is well!!
And yet, we’re here. : )
Facebook is great for keeping in touch with family and friends. Just treat everything that you put on there as something you wouldn’t mind seeing on the front page of the papers.
Also, don’t include “friends” from your local militia group ;-)
And when they follow you around the rest of your browsing experience. That’s OK and understandable too?
I enjoy seeing family pictures on FB. Anyone spying on me would be bored out of their mind.
They are after we the people, ordinary tea party, conservatives, anyone they disagree with. DHS should be disemboweled like yesterday.
“THE White House has confirmed that US intelligence agencies have been collecting data held by Facebook, Google, Apple and other web giants for nearly six years...”
This, IMO, is the coup de gras that will sink Buckwheat’s support among young people. He is toast. The only young people who will continue to stand by the muslim will be a tiny group of shrieking 70 IQ turds who hate the white skin they were born in.
This revelation is a major blow that will bust the dam and flood the obuma administration.
Things are okay here. I’m getting by. Thanks for the response. Glad you agree, and I hope you’re doing good these days.
Days like these make me pine for Santa Monica, Malibu and Santa Barbara, in the 70's-80's!!
A Tommy burger with extra chili and hot pepper juice running down my arms would be nice too!
Ah well, at least we have In-N-Out here....sigh...
Glad to heat you are good, stay well!
