A gunman opened fire on a street corner near the campus of Santa Monica College, wounding at least four people, authorities said. Two people were later found dead in a burned home near the campus.
It was not immediately clear if the two events were related.
Police and witnesses said the gunfire began adjacent to the campus and about 3 miles from where President Barack Obama was attending a fundraising luncheon, just before noon.
Police said a shooter was in custody and the campus was being searched for a possible second shooter.
Jeff Furrows of the Santa Monica Fire Department said there was extensive fire damage inside the nearby home. A woman also was found with a gunshot wound in a car outside the burned home, he said.
Three shooting victims were admitted to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, hospital spokesman Mark Wheeler said. Two were in critical condition and one was in serious condition, said.

the gunman killed his father and brother in the house..they interviewed the neighbor who lives across the street, doesnt really know the family but thinks the brother’s name is Curtis not sure..there might be more than one gunman on the loose..he was dressed like a member of the SWAT team

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (KTLA) —
SNIPPET: ““Once I saw people running saying, “this isn’t a drill. This is gunfire,” another student said. “My heart was pounding. I didn’t know what to do. I had to run into my classroom and tell everyone to stop the final.”
One professor acted quickly to protect his students who were taking a philosophy final.
“Got all our students, pulled them away from the door. We huddled up in a corner so if anyone looked in they wouldn’t see us,” Professor Robert Flores said.
According to police, the gunman was dressed in SWAT gear including a ballistic vest and was armed with an AR-15 semi-automatic weapon with multiple rounds of ammunition.
A second person was taken into custody in connection with the shootings, but he was later released.”

Mykel Denis, who lives in the next apartment, was questioned by police Friday afternoon. He said they asked whether he knew the two. He described the woman as “pleasant” and her son as “angry.” Court records show that Zawahri, the owner of the burned house, had divorced a woman named Randa Abdou, who now lives next door to Denis.”
