The individual responsible for one of the most significant leaks in US political history is Edward Snowden, a 29-year-old former technical assistant for the CIA and current employee of the defence contractor Booz Allen Hamilton. Snowden has been working at the National Security Agency for the last four years as an employee of various outside contractors, including Booz Allen and Dell.
The Guardian, after several days of interviews, is revealing his identity at his request. From the moment he decided to disclose numerous top-secret documents to the public, he was determined not to opt for the protection of anonymity. "I have no intention of hiding who I am because I know I have done nothing wrong," he said.
Snowden will go down in history as one of America's most consequential whistleblowers, alongside Daniel Ellsberg and Bradley Manning. He is responsible for handing over material from one of the world's most secretive organisations – the NSA.
In a note accompanying the first set of documents he provided, he wrote: "I understand that I will be made to suffer for my actions," but "I will be satisfied if the federation of secret law, unequal pardon and irresistible executive powers that rule the world that I love are revealed even for an instant."

Hopefully he realizes that the people powerful enough to want this database and ‘make it happen’ will likely seek retribution against his family as well.

You should recognize that this guy is almost certainly a big lib and a big Obama supporter. Time will tell on that but there are clues in the interview and the Guardian Q&A.

They also break real news about American scandals that our own media doesn't. The Guardian just reported our newest scandal about the NSA collecting data from millions of Americans. It has been in the news for the last couple days. Google NSA + Verizon. I know - it's tough to keep up with the weekly Obambi intrusions on our liberties and his on-going commie control agenda of our lives.

In Manning’s case I view him as “the enemy of my enemy is my friend! While Manning was less sophisticated in what he did, he has also “outed” our government and showed us just how corrupt it all is.

I do not know why this guy did this now, but my heart is telling me he is counting on us, yes us... his fellow partiots...to take action. First and foremost he needs appropriate protection and I do not know how we can do that? I trust there are others who are already stepping up to help him.

I’m fully aware of what this regime is capable of. They are extra-legal and have been since they took office.
The only thing that will protect this man is a high-profile co-ordinated effort by congress. A private bill would give him the fig leaf of “legal protection.” He will for the rest of his life have to live in a public bubble that might make him too important to kill.
Maybe that will be enough. Maybe.
