Spy chiefs used U.S. to run secret snoppers' charter, claims Cable after it emerges GCHQ trawled through private information

Spy chiefs may have been operating a secret ‘snoopers’ charter’ to track people’s internet use in the UK, a senior Government minister has admitted.

Business Secretary Vince Cable made the claim after it emerged GCHQ trawled through private information, including emails, photographs and social networking pages, harvested by a secret U.S. surveillance programme.

Critics accused agents at the listening post of attempting to bypass British law by sending requests for intercepts to American authorities – a claim denounced as ‘fanciful nonsense’ by Foreign Secretary William Hague.

< You got that right. I can’t think of any the Feds have stopped. ALL seem to have been stopped by civilians, or local and state cops. No feds. >

It’s almost as if they aren’t even trying.

The problem has become we rely upon systems to do the dirty work long done by street agents and sources like CIs and cooperating informants. It has been implanted in our psyche, that is, we are into video games, result without verbal or physical interaction.

Daily Mail is an awesome source, but their proofreading is apparently non-existent.

I clicked on the link and “snopper” does indeed also appear in the original.

At first I thought it meant to say "secret shopper"

The avalanche is truly happening. To the extent that Obama may well soon say, “Folks, doggone it, this Presidentin’ isn’t worth all this time away from my family ... Folks love Joe Biden, so I’m excited to have him leadin’ the folks, folks...”

Interesting. I didn’t know anyone snopped anymore. It’s such a 20th century thing.

Is this British English?”

I’m in my 70’s, and I learned at a very young age to never argue with a Brit re their usage and spelling of English. It is their language. :)

The avalanche is truly happening.

Keep it coming. Could we get some incriminating info. on the massive vote fraud in the 2012 election?

I love British English and there are many times I’ve been told by Brits that the Americans have corrupted and bastardized their language. However, I am amazed that so many Brits apparently didn’t learn the Queen’s English or they prefer not to make use of it, as evidenced by the huge number of posts I see on Facebook by Englishmen with no spelling or punctuation etc.

The Brits like Americans have a % of failures when it comes to using their language.

Decades ago we had this sweet senior citizen Brit, who used to read one or both of the lessons at our church.

I told our priest, that we couldn’t understand her and we got headaches on readings more than a couple of simple paragraphs.

He ignored us until a group of better educated Brit Ladies told him to stop her from reading she was a disgrace their language. He finally did stop her.

Everyone should go plant “Stop Jihad Now!” signs at the local mosque.
