For Dennis Ebersole, the fallout from the Boy Scouts of America's decision to change a century of policy and allow openly gay Scouts to participate wasn't long in coming.
"Within 12 hours of the announcement that the membership standards resolution had passed, I was contacted by five other members in my pack leadership committee, questioning whether they were going to continue Scouting," said Mr. Ebersole, a den leader with Cub Scout Pack 282 in South Riding, Va.
The reaction was equally quick for Gary Hiden, an assistant scoutmaster of Troop 268 in New Market, Md., who has been involved with the Boy Scouts of America his whole life. He was a Boy Scout, and his mother served as a den mother and his father as a scoutmaster. Now, both his sons are Scouts. But the family plans to quit the Boy Scouts once the new policy takes effect Jan. 1.
"I'm very sad, because it's a part of me and a part of my family. We have so much invested in Boy Scouting," Mr. Hiden said. "But we don't believe that the new policy is consistent with our beliefs."
Mr. Hiden's troop is chartered by a Lutheran church, and he identifies himself as a Christian. He said his elder son, who is 15, is just shy of becoming an Eagle. "Hopefully, he'll be able to be an Eagle Scout by Jan. 1," he said — before the policy comes into force.
The dust is settling two weeks after the Boy Scouts of America's national council adopted the policy accepting openly gay Scouts but retaining a ban on gay adult Scout leaders.

It’ll be open season on any young man wearing a Boy Scout uniform from now on. Talk about an invitation for bullying. Gay or not, Boy Scouts will never be anything but gay.
It doesn’t test anything except the stupidity and gullibility of the American people.

It won’t be a problem if all the current leaders quit. There will be plenty of homosexual men to replace them. That will give the scout bigwigs what they wanted.
I withdrew my grandson the next meeting after the announcement, as did a dozen others. The Scout leader for the troop is still trying to decide what to do. He is a good Christian man and the troop is affiliated with a local church. They still like the IDEA of Scouts. I think some are hoping it won’t really change.

Exactly. The loyalty of the membership in Scouting creed never changed. The failure of loyalty rests solely on the shoulders of the “leaders.”

The result was predictable enough——were they actually trying to destroy the scouts?
Homosexuals maybe thought they needed their own org but they wanted the cachet of being THE Boy Scouts. So now they have the first part of that. The rest will come soon enough.

There are no 7 year old queers. there are no 11 year old queers. there are no 13 year old queers.
Almost no boys join scouts after 13.
The problem will not be queers in scouts except for isolated and misguided activists searching for headlines.
Those leaving scouts are foolish. They should be brave and courageous and withstand the on slought.
Critics of the Scouts are now decrying that gays are kicked out at 18 but atheists are gone immediately.
They received a major concession and are still crying.
Which is why the Scouts shouldn’t have given in at all.
I was once a Boy Scout and believed in what I was taught...and still do.
If I were a grandfather I would urge my grandchildren to take their boys out of the program.
It seems to me that there will be two waves of reaction: 1) what is going on now and 2) what will happen once the second part is adopted, i.e., gay men as scoutmasters. And you just know that’s in the works.
Now, participation will drindle into nothing. Will any openly gays actually join? Probably verry, very few. But that was never the goal, was it? The goal was to bring BSA down.
Just like the Republican Party needs to be replaced, so does BSA. The real Boy Scouts and the real Republicans, those who want to live by their principles, must regroup and reestablish themselves.
One bit of error in these scouts’ thinking - the new policy is already de facto in force NOW.
Don’t wait until Jan 1 to separate yourselves from the abomination. Do it NOW!
