An ex-CIA employee who leaked details of US top-secret phone and internet surveillance has disappeared from his hotel in Hong Kong.

Edward Snowden, 29, checked out from his hotel on Monday. His whereabouts are unknown, but he is believed to be still in Hong Kong.

Earlier, he said he had an "obligation to help free people from oppression".

Snowden had a great life, $200,000 / year job , etc. Snowden gave it all up to warn the American people about the tyrant Obama wiretapping all our communications( that violates the constitution).

And let's not forget the hot dancer girlfriend he left behind.

Maybe he has moved to Peking. Maybe he is giving them Obama’s secret bed time details now.

I heard these allegations last night in an interview with former NSA whistle blowers. They also alleged that NSA could provide opposition research for elections. Imagine that. Who would run? Who could run? This could be the end of democracy in the US. The abuse has to stop and effective (nonpartisan) supervision put in place. Think how rich people could become tapping phones of business leaders discussing acquisitions?

That is exactly right. Yes he broke the law, but when the FedGov becomes an arm of the DNC.. At what point does that stop being important.

I know how Chicago politics operate. Obama used to be the Senator across the river. He pulled SEALED divorce records, that both parties wanted to remain sealed, and published them on the front page of the Chicago Tribune.

Now the same Machine has all the resources of the NSA. They will do the same, and have done so. It is no wonder that the GOP slate has been very weak lately, they know what is going on.

Sadly, I don't think that Snowden will matter. The Machine doesn't care if everyone knows it exists, because once it is in power it can't be broken.

If the US had a secret program feeding people into furnaces, would it be traitorous to speak out against that?

If not, how is this any different? The govt was engaged in criminal Unconstitutional acts against the people. And you are defending that.

US officials have betrayed their oaths and the Constitution by allowing this program to go on. THAT IS THE ISSUE.

Bump for an excellent post. This is a key issue.

This is a BIG deal. With the IRS targeting political opponents, the EPA waiving fees for their friends, DOJ punishing whistle blowers, imagine how bad it will be if NSA targets people who question actions of president. When a General in Afghanistan said it was not going so well over there, poof out comes his private emails? When Petreaus gets a little out of line, poof out comes evidence of an affair? I heard these allegations last night in an interview with former NSA whistle blowers. They also alleged that NSA could provide opposition research for elections. Imagine that. Who would run? Who could run? This could be the end of democracy in the US. The abuse has to stop and effective (nonpartisan) supervision put in place. Think how rich people could become tapping phones of business leaders discussing acquisitions?

The corruption has to be pulled out by the roots. What we have now is the Chicago Obama mob running things. Yes, Mr. Snowden is a hero.

<....” Mr. Snowden is a hero”....>

He is a whistleblower...but hasn’t told us anything we didn’t already know..... I wouldn’t call that a hero in the terms of my understanding of the stuff heros are made of......regardless of what he believes he’s sacrificed....

Further he has surely put his family in jeprody since some of them are gov. workers....will they loose their jobs? No doubt the authorities are already investigating them...at minimal asking questions.

We need to see concrete details ..names and incidents specific....he has not given anything not already clearly aware of.

Additionally, we knew how ‘O’ would use this Presidency...he made that very clear long before in office. ...and he’s certainly done the damage he said he would do.

So you think the government should not try to stop the terrorists from attacking this country? How many attacks were stopped by this surveillance? We have no idea. Congressional leaders were informed of this, regular U.S. citizens NOT in touch with terrorists were not bothered. I support our intelligence agencies and I believe those that do not are supporting the terrorists at our expense. Just what do you expect the intelligence agencies to do? NOT use all available means to stop attacks on the U.S. people? I bet you don’t believe in waterboarding either so that we can get ALL available information from our enemies.

A majority in the U.S. Senate has told President Barack Obama not to do it. There’s no doubt that an overwhelming majority of Americans would oppose it — if the media ever told them about it.

The Guardian newspaper says Hong Kong is one of the few places that both could and would resist the dictates of the US government.

Although Hong Kong, technically, has a different system of government (and system of justice) than the rest of China the city is still,in fact, run by Beijing. This guy will be allowed to stay in Hong Kong *only* if the top leaders in Beijing think that it will *help* China or *hurt* the US.Otherwise,he's toast.

Really?

I'm impressed you hit every talking point in one paragraph.

Snowden gave it all up so that he could warn the American people what this criminal tyrant Obama was doing = wiretapping all Americans , snooping on all our Internet communications, transactions, phone calls etc.

Bears repeating. Snowden = Paul Revere. Already I've noticed Rita Crosby, Liz Cheney, Boehner, media/pols etal. warping the true narrative as members of BOTH parties attempt to turn this guy into the second coming of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg.

Of course Obama’s IRS did every possible prior to the election to undermine and compromise his opposition, including intimidated, investigated, harassed, penalized, browbeat and demoralized these groups and individuals.

The IRS might as well have torched the buildings and took shots at these individuals and groups which opposed Obama.

Whoever controls government has the power to do whatever they want.

They have clearly proven this.

So is it pro-American to aid and abet Obama’s tyrranical crimes? Is it treachery not to warn Americans that Obama is spying on you? Is Snowden a traitor for sacrificing a high-paying job to risk his life by letting the world know Obama is a thug?
