As long as the employer has a “right to deny”
If you can’t do the job you are hired for, at the hours your employer needs you, then why apply for the job?
Under this, I can see fast food and retail workers asking to telecommute.
So the lawyer will take the case, silly.

This seems like an OK business practice to let employees request such things. But there need not be a law to allow it. Just more government intrusion.
Actually I expect this stuff will go national by the end of the decade.
It’s just way too popular with younger low-info voters, who envy the French and their endless vacations.

Well, those would probably be optional. But they would likely give “administrative leave” (i.e., the employee earns pay for that time) for that time so no vacation or sick leave time would have to be taken and the employees could still leave for the day at their regular time. Ain’t life in San Francisco just great!
I don’t think work schedules are the reason families have fled San Francisco.
This should certainly give employers an incentive to hire those over 40 and less likely to be “caregivers”.
They could invite the Boy Scouts and Nambla.
Not that many children in SF. The few heterosexual couples there move across the bay when they have a family.

Correct. Among many other reasons is that the cost of having a family in SF in terms of shelter, food, clothing and energy has driven out everyone but the very wealthy, with the very wealthy having a high percentage of older people with grown or no children.

I had thought the entire population of children under the age of about ten in that metropolis was made up of foreign-born Chinese girls adopted by gay or lesbian couples.
Of course, these people would want to take their babies to work. How else could they show off their one-up-man-ship to their peers?
It’s not only the high cost of living in San Francisco which has driven out families with children. The entire “social climate”, if we can use that term, has caused families with children to leave.
Or, put another way, many people don’t want to raise their children in The Castro. The whole “gay” scene and “gay” themed neighborhoods are not child friendly.
Flame away. I know what I just wrote is not politically correct. But, the environment found in these types of places is not the sort of neighborhood which most families with children want to live.

Why would anyone with room temp IQ or above give a smelly Obama about anything coming out of CA?
And even less than a smelly Obama about anything coming out of SF?
I would automatically approve all such formal "requests", and then a few days or weeks later fire the entitled brat - for a totally unrelated reason. If an employee wants to informally ask about flexible work schedules, I'll listen with an open mind. If an employee demands that I defer to his convenience, and a request under this law is a demand, that is not someone I want to keep in my employ.
Most natural families moved out of homoutopia so I doubt this policy is for real families.
