Oh, good: Obama administration sneaks more expensive carbon pricing into a microwave-oven rule

Never underestimate the sneakiness when you’re dealing with The Most Transparent Administration, Evah‘s tortured internal conflict between pretending to heed the voices calling for pragmatic economic growth and appeasing the vociferous green interests nipping at their heels. The Obama administration just threw a major bone to said interests with a reevaluation that’s going to come in particularly handy in producing very official- and serious-sounding studies and reports, but it was carried out in a very quiet maneuver that I’m sure they’re hoping will pass by the public eye generally unnoticed.

The Obama administration uses their “social cost of carbon” estimate as a tool to price out how environmentally costly they think proposed regulations are going to be, and they just significantly ramped up that price — and buried the move in a small rule about microwave ovens. Via Bloomberg:

The increase of the so-called social cost of carbon, to $38 a metric ton in 2015 from $23.80, adjusts the calculation the government uses to weigh costs and benefits of proposed regulations. The figure is meant to approximate losses from global warming such as flood damage and diminished crops. …

With the change, government actions that lead to cuts in emissions — anything from new mileage standards to clean-energy loans — will appear more valuable in its cost-benefit analyses. On the flip side, environmentalists urge that it be used to judge projects that could lead to more carbon pollution, such as TransCanada Corp. (TRP)’s Keystone pipeline or coal-mining by companies such as Peabody Energy Corp. (BTU) on public lands, which would be viewed as more costly….

Even supporters questioned the way the administration slipped the policy out without first opening it for public comment. The change was buried in an afternoon announcement on May 31 about efficiency standards for microwave ovens....

Carbon carbon carbon carbon carbon. That's all you ever hear from the left, but they never tell the people that the percentage of Carbon or "Carbon dioxide" in the earths atmosphere is ZERO POINT FREAKIN' ZERO! And if you do push them about it, they give to you in "parts per million" or PPM so it sounds like a LOT more than it really is, but it still doesn't change the fact that it's a ZERO POINT FREAKIN' ZERO PERCENTAGE.

Only if you don't show enough decimal places.

It's around 400 ppm, or 0.000400 fraction, or 0.04 %.

If you don't think that's worth knowing about, try breathing 0.04% sulfur dioxide.

We are totally screwed!

All who thought McCain was bad and went third party.

And those who said after one term everyone will be a conservative.

We are truly on the road to perdition!

A microwave oven must be better than those wood burning stoves.
Except for the coal fired power plant that runs it of course.
But electric cars are supposed to be so clean.
However, they too need power plants. Sigh.

Yes but that is sulfur dioxide, this is CO2 a necessary gas for life on earth that has gone up maybe .02 in the last 10,000 years which is a ridiculously small amount. What do you get from it? At the most more plant growth. But global warming of catastrophic nature? Baaaloney! The atmosphere is too huge, something like 5 quadrillion metric tons which might as well be infinity as far as man is concerned.

You know where they get this from? From greenhouses. Literally greenhouses where you grow plants. To make the plants grow faster they pump in CO2 and because of the moisture and the heat from the sun going through the glass, some jerk went "A-ha! It's the CO2 making it hotter!" I KNOW that's how this all started and all the flim flam men like Al Gore jumped on it. You know how much that guy is worth now from this hoax? $300 MILLION dollars! The guy is an economic terrorist not to mention a drunk.

$300 mill? In a dozen years of giving speeches, and authoring books written by others. It took Mick Jagger 40 years of hard work to reach that level! Whatta country!

I would think Microwave ovens have the least carbon footprint of any cooking method.

It’s bad enough when they use junk science to justify taxes, but when their plan is the exact opposite of what they should do, you just have to wonder if they are mentally deficient.

...efficiency standards for microwave ovens.

Great. Now the O'bastard is going after the very last appliance that still works in the kitchen. We have faucets that dribble water, dishwashers that take 6 hours to run a load because the scaled back the drying elements, dishwasher detergents without phosphates that won't clean, and LED recessed lights that cost 10x what an incandescent fixture cost, put out a ghastly whitish light, and won't properly dim. Our appliances used to work perfectly and lasted for decades...until the bastards in Wash DC started meddling.

And he’s never held a 9 - 5 job that paid more than $220k a year before taxes. He’s been making all this money pumping and dumping stock, he invests or is given stock in a BS green company, he then gets the government to invest YOUR tax money in it which raises the stock then Al dumps it at a hefty profit, the company fails because it was a hoax company to begin with and he moves on to the next scam company. Quite a racket isn’t it. The guy should be in JAIL but we have a double standard it seems in this country.

I’ve read the article several times but still can’t figure out what the average hidden tax per microwave is.

Speed comprehension hint: As soon as you get to the word "social" in any sentence, skip the rest because you immediately know it's a lie. Like "social justice" for example. It's always totally UNjust, which they tacitly admit, because if it were just, they wouldn't need the other word.
