If you've got a policy against hiring anyone with a criminal record, you better review guidelines issued by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
The EEOC today filed lawsuits against BMW's manufacturing plant in Spartanburg, S.C., and Dollar General, which is based in Goodlettsville, Tenn. The agency contends the companies' policies against hiring people who have been convicted of a crime violate the Civil Rights Act because they disproportionately cost African-Americans jobs.

That's what I was thinking... Friends who would know say even a misdemeanor can be reason to deny a clearance. A felony? Forget it, don't even waste your time.
So, yet another case of big government and the ruling elite sticking it in our faces and saying do as we say, not as we do.
“There are some areas of this country where the company I work for has trouble finding people who do not have a felony in their past, are able to read and write, and can pass a drug test.”
I’ll take a swag at this, and I would suppose that these areas tend to coincide with blue states.
You can’t even get clearance to be a teacher in my state. We co-chair an after-school program in L.A. and I was not surprised how much information you have to provide just to be employed as an after-school instructor. You might as well join the CIA with the amount of paperwork you have to sign.
Challenge the Fed department making the claim.
“Our percentage of employees who are convicted felons is equal to yours.”
“However, the percentage of our employees who are felons, not yet convicted, will never compare to yours!”
Day care and schools should hire pedophiles, DEA and CIA should hire drug dealers, banks should hire thieves.
Oh I forgot, they already do that.

The Federal Government attacking (non-union) business in the southern US. Happens every day. It’s part of the “progressive” plan to turn the entire US into a corrupt collectivist hell hole, and since they can’t do it with bullets (yet) they do it with a blizzard of lawyers and expensive paperwork.
nobody forced blacks to commit the crimes they’ve done. the fact more criminals are black, percentage-wise to their black population numbers, is not racist. it means there are more black criminals as a percentage of their population percentage.

The first mine I worked for would not hire people with drug or theft convictions but assault an manslaughter or murder conviction wasn’t disqualifying. Murderers make good miners. Makes sense.

last i checked, it’s illegal to file a tax return using someone else’s ssno... yet 0bama’s been doing this for years
and confiscating my personal information without cause or due process is also against the law... yet they’ve been doing it for years.
the IRS is supposed to audit people using a random selection filter in order to avoid the possibility of harassment via audits. they blew that off a few years ago.
so yea.... hire who you like. if one of the prerequisites for the job is no criminal convictions... then so be it.
stand up to them and tell them to shove it... you won’t willingly endanger your employees or the corporation just to satisfy their political agenda.
And don’t forget that the companies will be demanded to take full responsibility for the ex-felons actions if they do hire them.
It’s a no-win.
If there are any black people who can still be embarrassed by the condition of the black race and culture, this should make them blush.
I'm out on bail facing felony stalking charges in Texas for e-mailing jokes to a former jack-*ss employer who fired me.
My first time in trouble with the law, and my lawyer thinks that the charges will eventually be dropped.
But I don't know for sure, this country is quickly becoming a police state and the law and order cheerleaders may be in for a rude awakening someday.
It is everywhere.

I should clarify, correct about the rude awakening. My son is struggling because of a “crime” that 20 years ago would have gotten him a mere talking-to rather than charges. he couldn’t afford a lawyer.

Unfortunately, I live in one of those areas. Probably 20% of all applicants we get can’t pass the basic hiring requirements.
Fight it in court as you’re already doing.
