Obamacare? We were just leaving …
Politico ^ | Thursday, June 13, 2013 | ANNA PALMER and JAKE SHERMAN

Dozens of lawmakers and aides are so afraid that their health insurance premiums will skyrocket next year thanks to Obamacare that they are thinking about retiring early or just quitting...

The fear: Government-subsidized premiums will disappear at the end of the year under a provision in the health care law that nudges aides and lawmakers onto the government health care exchanges, which could make their benefits exorbitantly expensive...

If the issue isn’t resolved, and massive numbers of lawmakers and aides bolt, many on Capitol Hill fear it could lead to a brain drain just as Congress tackles a slew of weighty issues — like fights over the Tax Code and immigration reform...

Lawmakers and aides on both sides of the aisle are acutely aware of the problems with the provision. Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) have discussed fixes to the provision. Boehner, according to House GOP sources, believes that Reid must take the lead on crafting a solution. Since Republicans opposed the bill, Boehner does not feel responsible to lead the effort to make changes.

Brains on Capitol Hill are drained every time they flush a toilet up there.

Their brains are treated at Blue Plains, you can smell them when you pass by.

This is good news. The less we have of the resident Washington, D.C. “Mandarin Class”, so much the better.

In the years ahead, there will be new Senators and Congressmen who will be arriving from the real world, fresh with stories to tell of their employees and businessmen in their districts who were raped by Ocare.

At least you have a job that provides a health care plan...

As a perfectly healthy, self-employed small business person, I get to pay almost $700 PER MONTH for my own insurance. ($2500 deductible!) And this is through a state pool for the “un-insurable” that is going away as soon as Obamacare exchanges activate. Wonder how much I’ll get to pay then?!?!

Even though we’ve struggled to keep me continuously insured through 2 years of spouse’s unemployment, I’m just about to say ‘screw it’ and keep my money. As if I’m going to get any actual health services through Obamacare as a conservative anyway - NOT!

"The uncertainty has created a growing furor on Capitol Hill with aides young and old worried about skyrocketing health care premiums cutting deeply into their already small paychecks."

And what about the rest of America, who's "already small paychecks" are 30% LOWER than those of government workers?

Believe me a brain drain in the District of Corruption IS THE LAST THING THEY SHOULD BE WORRING ABOUT.

We could stand in the center of Disney World throwing nerf balls randomly - and get a better crop of people to run the country than we have now.

What makes the authors of this piece think that any of the legislation is actually written by members of Congress?

It’s not so much that they’re stupid and lazy. They are clever and they lie, and they put a great deal of effort into scheming and lying on behalf of the backers that they really “report” to.

Precisely. Legislation is written by lobbyists working with the Congressional staff.

That’s why there is a revolving door between the two.

The political operatives who are FReepers (perhaps secretly) know this very well.

But us general public folks sometimes forget about this revolving door.

The lobbyist / Congressional staff revolving door, and big backers of Congressmen having so much influence are why electing a different Congressman only works for a term or two - if at all.

It’s few and far between where even a freshman Congressman does not have his big backers right from the get go.

Never forget that the major excuse for passing this sh*t sandwich was because 10 million or so Americans were without health insurance coverage.

Last I checked, there were three times that many bounced off the rolls because marginal businesses were no longer allowed to offer marginal catastrophic type policies.

I thought these guys had automatic waivers? What tricks are they pulling now? They know as well as we do there is no healthcare in Obamacare; so what’s the point of making this statement? Are they trying to make it seem like they empathize with us as did Hitler when he took Germany over?
