Most Americans find it unacceptable for the National Security Agency to collect the phone records of millions of U.S. citizens. In addition, a majority lacks trust in the federal government, and an increasing number of people say its too big.
These are just some of the findings of a Fox News poll released Wednesday.
Sixty-two percent of voters say the government secretly collecting the phone records of millions of Americans is an unacceptable and alarming invasion of privacy rights.
Thats nearly twice as many as think its an acceptable government action to help prevent terrorism (32 percent).
Republicans (by 74-18 percent) and independents (by 67-26 percent) think the NSA surveillance of Americans is unacceptable. Democrats split: 48 percent say its acceptable, while 46 percent say unacceptable.
Views are similar on the U.S. Department of Justice monitoring certain reporters as part of its leak investigation. By a 34 percentage-point margin, more voters think the governments seizure of journalists records was mainly done for political reasons (63 percent) as opposed to national security reasons (29 percent).

Yet, a majority would vote for the Kenyan again.
My daughter argues that Snowden is a traitor because he signed an agreement not to disclose activities of the government. Her claim is that he had other avenues to try to bring awareness of this unconstitutional program within the government framework without just bringing it to the attention of the media first.
Oh youth are so naïve. It would be the chickens going to the fox with their fears...and we know how it ends up for the chickens.
Considering that Obama said he had no idea about IRS and justice department misdeeds and he ‘learned about them in the press’ just like we did,
he has a pretty weak hand in continuing his ‘My big mommy government programs can fix your lives’ tour.
Youth hell...I say a couple freepers argue that here the other night.
Big difference between this poll and the rat push Pew poll released earlier this week.
There is a direct link between what the NSA is doing and the IRS scandal.
This past election the IRS was asking tea party groups for their member lists. Next time they will just look at citizen’s profiles to figure out who to harass.
Funny how they don’t care who is in our country (25% of the felon’s in CA are illegals), but they want to know everything about Americans.
I call BS. I’m sure that this comment will end up in my profile...:^)
“Her claim is that he had other avenues to try to bring awareness of this unconstitutional program within the government framework...”
I’d just tell her that in America, the citizenry IS within the government framework. The worst he can be accused of is jumping the chain of command.
So this is the new 24 hour news topic. I will bet zero just loves his position on this, in that he can play the tough guy, sort of Bush-lite.
As for news, IRS scandal- done, Bengazi- done, Justice Dept/Rosen-done.
Good Lord, I fear this government. And I do fear them having this power to monitor us. They will and are abusing the power. I am certain of that.
I see nothing ahead but complete collapse and civil war of our beloved country.
Wasn’t the U.S. Department of Justice sold 4 1/2 years ago? or did it go out of business?.
