In a sharp escalation of the U.S. role in Syria's bloody civil war, the White House announced late Thursday that it will provide military aid to rebels fighting to topple President Bashar al-Assad after confirming that his government used chemical weapons on the opposition.
Deputy National Security Advisor for Strategic Communications Ben Rhodes told reporters on a conference call that President Barack Obama had heard pleas from Syria's rebel Supreme Military Council (SMC) for more help. "Our aim is to be responsive," Rhodes said, underlining that the new assistance would have "direct military purposes."

They mean to AlQaeda
This is DELICIOUS!!!!!!! Rabid Progressives who LOATHED BUSH for being a war monger...hahahhaha...welcome to YOUR IRAQ. Let’s see...100,000 killed in Syria so far. 450,000 were murdered in Iraq if not more and they had chemical weapons used on them as well. SOOOOOOOOOOOOO this one is justified now? Yep....Obama has just become everything they said Bush was. Suck it up kids.
You mean the “rebels” didn’t get enough of the missing “manpads” in Libya?
Now, now, it isn’t war until Congress declares it. Besides, Mr. Nobel Peace Prize wouldn’t suggest it to Congress. This is merely “aid”, don’cha know.
Military advisors are in Jordan and Israel now. No doubt they already slipped across, especially when they escorted John McCain into Syria, remember? Hell, we’re already there fighting.
I think I’d prepare for Russia to one-up the US on this. They could bring in enough air defense to really knock the US back a step or two.
Challenging Obama, Bill Clinton urges US action in Syria
Ask EVERY Obama voter you know if undeclared wars times infinity is what they thought they were voting for...
And watch them stammer and stutter something about “Palin... Romney... Unqualified...” The TV programming hasn’t conditioned them to deal with this.
I guess it is going to have to be a whole kennel of “wag the dogs” to get public’s mind off an epic and historic flood of presidential criminal scandals.
The cynic in me says: To get the multiple scandals off the front page.
The realist in me says: It's somebody else's call and a decision with which he's being told to play along. I think that's been the case with this empty suit since his campaign.
And where are the Russians and Iranians on this?
I don’t expect them to sit still while Obama
rams it up their butt.
“after confirming that his government used chemical weapons” this is totally made up! It WAS proven the REBELS used chemical weapons! If using chemical weapons is the justification for giving heavy arms doesn’t the Syrian gov’t meet the same criteria since the rebels used chem? I don’t care for Assad but this is continued propaganda to justify direct removal(drone?) of Assad to install the Muslim Brotherhood! Is there only a remnant that understands that Israel is being INTENTIONALLY surrounded by muslims and once Jordan falls to the muslim brotherhood Obama-muslim and everyone else will withdraw from Israel!? Psalm 83, I hope Israel takes back all the promised land.
Why would any conservative enlist in the military of an islamic fraud ?
“And where are the Russians and Iranians on this?”
That is a very good point. We’ll have to see, especially whoever wins the Friday election in Iran.
If we go into Syria, that will definitely put Putin and Russia in an awkward position.
The thing is, Obama is so gung-ho about Syria, yet he did NOTHING when Khamenei/Ahmadinejad pulled a Tiananmen Square after the rigged election back in 2009 and slaughtered tons of people.
Obama’s foreign policy has been a series of mistakes, except one, restraint in Syria. Now there are no exceptions to mistakes and failures.
Choosing the Muslim Brotherhood and Al Qaeda, both groups who like to kill Americans and Christians is an error, possibly of catastrophic proportions.
Al-Qaeda now being armed by us.
Can the House refuse to fund it? Not with Boner at the helm.
I would think if it looked like the US and the rebels
were fixing to throw Assad out, Hezzbullah would do
it’s best to drag Israel into it.
Not a good situation at all.
