Charlie Booth, 16, was worried he would get into trouble after police visited to discuss sexual text messages he sent to a girl.
He was described as a remarkable young man by his headteacher at the prestigious £10,000-a-year Gads Hill School in Higham, Kent, set in the former home of Charles Dickens.
Charlie was found dead by his parents on March 8 at their home in Watling Street, Cobham, Kent.
The coroner ruled that Charlie took his own life.
Hours before his death police were called to the family's home between 6pm and 7pm to reports of text messages of a sexual nature being sent to a girl, the inquest at Gravesend's Old Town Hall heard.
Det Sgt Lee Neiles, of Kent Police, told the inquest: "She wanted them to stop.
"Nick (Charlie's father) gave him words of advice and they went to KFC in Valley Drive in Gravesend and Nick said he (Charlie) had to be careful about contacting young girls.
"They had a KFC but Charlie seemed withdrawn."
They returned home and Charlie went to his bedroom.
Around 10pm his mother Julia came back from an evening with her friends in Bluewater to hear about the complaints made against Charlie.
She told her son off and confiscated his mobile phone.
Around 30 minutes later while Mr and Mrs Booth were downstairs they heard a loud bang.

In the UK I thought suicide by firearms could not happen.
What a homophobic pervert.
No wonder the police had to get involved.
Kids lose many of their best years to schooling. Those that survive have the opportunity to begin the long road to recovery. This boy wasn’t among them.
We do not know what the content of the texts he sent were, nor do we know the age of the recipient.
So let's just presume the worst. It's the safest thing to do.
Once upon a time one parent would go talk to the other parent.
Darwin Award!
I’m distracted by the expression “they had a KFC...”
ok, that was not neccesary or funny.
A darwin award is for someone who removes themselves from the gene pool in an extraordinary act of stupidity.
This was a suicide, and does not qualify
This kid probably had other problems. This does not even come close to the kind of thing I’d expect a kid to commit suicide over.
Most adolescents don’t realize that, even 5 years hence, they won’t even remember most of the things that seem so damn important at that age.
In a police State, adolescence and the natural course of puppy love is now a matter for the authorities.
In a Sane World, this is an Issue between Parents
The Daughter tells her Mom
The Mom talks to the boys Mom
The Boys Mom (or Dad) talks to the Boy
Whippings, if necessary, are optional
Rejection by the girl may have been more motivation than parent or police objections to the sexting.
Plus the parents took away his cellphone. My daughter and most of her friends would throw themselves out the nearest window if we did that, if they didn’t die of embarassment, shock, and withdrawal first.
He seemed to have been holding it together until his Mom came home from a “night out with the girls” and chewed him out, probably in a drunken rage after spending hours listening to stories about horrible men.
He reacted in the most extreme way possible. Rather than assume the worst, let’s infer that we do not have all the relevant facts.
ya, the concept of ISOLATION, so you’re forced to consider the consequences of your behavior, has become an alien idea.
