Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst blames campaign team, election calendar for Senate loss to Ted Cruz

Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst blames his stunning loss to Ted Cruz in last year’s Senate race on his campaign team and delays in staging the Republican primary.

“We had a hard time finding our voters,” Dewhurst said during a recording of Inside Texas Politics, which airs Sunday at 9:05 a.m. on WFAA (Channel 8).

Dewhurst said he had a new campaign team that didn’t understand how to use him.

“They didn’t get me,” Dewhurst said.

Dewhurst had strong name recognition entering the 2012 campaign season and was expected by most analysts to easily beat Cruz and other contenders for the Senate seat held by Republican Kay Bailey Hutchison.

But court fights over congressional redistricting pushed the primary from March to late May. When Dewhurst missed winning in the first round, Cruz seized the momentum and crushed him in the July 31 runoff.

“They didn’t get me,” Dewhurst said. No, we did get you, that's why we didn't vote for ya. --------------- :) Big ditto and bump for that. --------------------------------

Yep, Cruz had some help.

From the article--Dewhurst had strong name recognition entering the 2012 campaign season and was expected by most analysts to easily beat Cruz and other contenders for the Senate seat held by Republican Kay Bailey Hutchison.

Who's name, which reason, is nowhere in the article?

"I would not be in the U.S. Senate today if it were not for Governor Palin," Cruz said in gratitude.

I’ll never forget that little minion of Dewhurst that kept posting on here during the campaign telling everyone how Dewhurst was the real conservative and Ted Cruz had no experience...I just wish I could remember his name

Traded a few posts with that guy during the campaign. He was way over the top and one of those posters you just had to walk away from every now and then. You wrestle with pigs and all you get is mud all over yourself. Cruz had the ability to shake off the mud.

You couldn’t find your voters because they were still in Mexico.

Dewhurst thought he had the seat in the bag with Perry’s glowing endorsement. Team Perry got all upset when Palin showed up in support of Cruz and commenced to shred their anointed GOPe prince in the polls. Dewhurst should look inward for answers, but whiny losers never do.

I believe Patterson has thrown his hat in the ring for Lt. Gov. Have listened to him speak and he’s great right up until he talks about wanting to add a HUGE guest worker program for illegals in Texas. Wouldn’t vote for Patterson or Dewhurst as dog catcher. Sure hope we have another option but it is early yet.

Unfortunately, there doesn’t appear to be anyone to take Abbott’s place as AG. Keep hearing Jeb Bush’s son’s name pop up. We don’t need any more Bush’s in government anywhere.

I remember when Cruz polled at 3%. It was Sarah and the Tea Party. Moving the dates didn’t hurt Cruz either.

Perry had to endorse him.
How could he not endorse his own Lt Gov?

“We had a hard time finding our voters,” Dewhurst said

Actually, Dewhurst found them all. There just weren't very many. Cruz came out of nowhere and won, because his message resounded with the voters.

Dewhurt thought he was part of the royal Texas GOP bloodline, and was entitled to any office he wanted.

He didn't realize that KBH and Coryn had screwed the pooch, and the landscape changed. Texas a'int RINOville, and hopefully that was a cold slap in the face.
