Having lived there for 10 years (80’s), all I have to say is “Well, Dud!” They didn’t include the Chinese, who are a large part of the populace and then there are the mixed oriental races, which is even larger. Whites have always been a minority.
see right there.....how many of this 56.9 % have actually more caucasian blood or black blood in them then asian?..if its as little as 7%, this whole statistic is skewed...purposefully I suppose...
Unexpected? Hell it was that way when I lived there 50 years ago.
Hawaii, The Other Japan!
they call us Haole [ hah-ole] : without breathe , because the first white people the Hawaiians saw aboard the vessels of Captain James Cook in 1778 looked like the only other pale persons they were familiar with ; dead corpses . No breath - ha= breathe or life force , ole = no more .
I wear the definition with pride . No breath = no fear because dead already = mess with us and you will find out what no fear , Nec Aspera Terrent , means .
ps: it’s not a racial epitaph , even though some dumb ass Polynesian types may ignorantly try to use it thus . Water off a ducks back .
I was there back in ought-six and guess what? They had at least one Mexican radio station on the Big Island...huge hospitality industry there, y’know.
The state certainly seems to have a racial pecking order;
1. Native Hawaiian.
2. Japanese.
3. White.
4. Filipino.
5. Black.
Seems to work well for them.
In other news, the sky is blue.
I remember Kill Haole days in school in the 60’s. Dad was an Army officer at Schofield Barracks and I was a student at the local public school. Seemed I got my butt kicked on a regular basis.
Duuuuuuh!
Why are Whites above Fillipinos?
Affirmative Action based on DNA tests?
Why are Whites above Fillipinos?
Well DDuhhhhhhh. Big surprise?
I’ve lived here on Maui and know all about this first hand. Not all locals , Hawaiian or Asian hate whites. There are, of course, a minority that do but still bring no harm to them. I’ve been here 44 years and never , not once , had that problem and my two daughters went through the school systems here with no problems what so ever. This “hate whitey” thing gets blown out of proportion and many believe it that do not know first hand.
Even if its mostly hype its revealing of au unhealthy pathology among some over there.
I lived there for 5 years back in the 70s (high school and college years). In college, I rode the bus almost every day, transferring in some rough areas of the city and never had a real problem. There is some anti-”non-local” sentiment, but rarely was it manifested in violence. Most of the locals had a live-and-let-live attitude.
The following countries are some of those that are technically “Asian”:
Afghanistan
Armenia
Cyprus
Israel
Lebanon
Russia
United Arab Emirates
For me the whole thing was credible because I had heard about it from an associate, a Japanese American guy, who grew up in Pa'auilo. Also, there were a half dozen occasions when as a visitor it seemed very difficult for me to avoid trouble - I must've looked the part, because I really did try to keep a low profile.
