Dr. Rachel Ehrenfeld of the New York-based American Center for Democracy's Economic Warfare Institute warns that last July "al-Qaeda's English-language online magazine, Inspire, published an article called 'It Is of Your Freedom to Ignite a Firebomb,' which featured instructions on how to build an incendiary bomb to light forests on fire.
"A few months later, Russia's security (FSB) chief, Aleksandr Bortnikov warned, 'al-Qaeda was complicit in recent forest fires in Europe' as part of the terrorists' 'strategy of a thousand cuts.' Bortnikov spoke of 'extremist sites [that] contained detailed instructions of waging the forest jihad and stressed that such a method had proved itself effective as it inflicted both physical and moral damage, needed little training or investment and it was extremely hard for police to find and apprehend the arsonists.'

If there is evidence of this it will be covered up
Who’d a thunk... terrorists in America... naaaaa
That’s the first thing I thought when I heard that officials were certain that the fires where not natural.
Much as I hate to see the willful destruction of anyone’s property, the idea of Terrorists’ culpability may get up the noses of some Colorado Liberals.
They’ll have to re-arrange some of your mental furniture, I guess.
Just a small outcome of having an open-border society, with a welfare state (so that undocumented terrorists can get tax-payer funded cars, gas, matches, maps).
But for the idiots liberal greenies who inhibit forest management, that fire would have been a crawling yawner.
And blowing up chemical factories.
They will blame Bush.
As long as the left and the media can blame it on ‘global warming’ and Bush, we will hear nothing of it in the media.
Look at all the “fires” they’ve been starting around the country lately - Boston bombings, nosing around water supply, planes, the Canadian border train, and now this.
Of course, that goes without saying!
Who does the IRSNSADOJFBI investigate first? Bible thumping, gun toting , Conservative Americans.
If only the NSA had the ability to wiretap and collect data without warrants they could stop thi... Oh wait never mind.
This shows we need surveillance cameras to cover all forest land to prevent this. /s
Would not be surprised if the recent fires in CO WERE SET.
Tea Party folks with Bic lighters?
That is why the “new media” has stepped up to the plate.
“...your mental furniture...”
Had to read that twice, even after 3 mugs of coffee, but it’s a great phrase.
Yeah, how about a little forest management so that there isn’t enough underbrush fuel to make any of these fires a problem.
This is something that I have really worried about. It would be easy for 10 men to wreak absolute havoc and destruction on a state like mine that is suffering from a drought and has many areas overloaded with fuels ready for a match. We came close to losing our house in a wildfire caused by some kids playing with matches in 2000. Over 50 homes were destroyed along with about 15,000 acres. The national forest roads are pretty deserted so they could drive along setting fires every mile and no one could stop them unless they just shut down access. Many towns and cities have forest lands bordering or surrounding them. In 2002 a woman was burning a letter in a fire pit in the national forest and started a fire that burned down over 500,000 acres. It took weeks and millions of dollars to fight it. The disruption to the economy would be massive.
And there was this from CBS News two months ago: “Vandalism At San Jose PG&E Substation Called Sabotage”
“The vandals objective appears to have been shutting down the system, Sheriff Laurie Smith said at a news conference at the substation Tuesday afternoon.”
How incredible it must be to be a liberal. You advocate for the demise of your own country, property ...even your own species.
To be liberal is to cease to BE. I don’t get it.
It takes three things to make a fire: Air, fuel, and ignition. Air we can do nothing about. Ignitions, such as lightning strikes, happen all the time. The only tool available to control the damage a fire can do is to manage the fuel.
might also apply to chemical plants — 3 so far.
That is why the US Congress and Obama
deliberately LEFT THE borders open.
Did Terrorists Holder have to give matches
out with his weapons to them in FAST&FURIOUS
Probably, it was not necessary.
El Paso County Sheriff Terry Maketa was the sheriff who instigated the civil rights lawsuit against Colorado state over the two unconstitutional gun control laws passed this last legislative session.
He’s been joined by 55 of the 63 elected sheriffs in CO, but he started the whole thing.
This fire is payback to those who elected him.
I’ll wager no outside person started this, this was a CO job, as I believe most CO fires are.
Except maybe the Hayman fire more than 10 years ago. That was started by a Federal Forest Service worker, and burned over 400,000 acres as the local fire departments fought with the Forest Service over the right to fight the fire. Obviously the Forest Service won that fight.
I don’t either. They are truly the ‘enemy within’, and have infiltrated all levels of society and gov’t. We’re so compromised now, that I don’t know if we can ever recover from the past 50yrs of liberalism.
Nobody in the commie media wants to even hint at this, yet we are bombarded by lowest-common-denominator PSAs on the radio quoting “Smokey Bear” who has said FOR YEARS that “nine out of ten wildfires are caused by humans.” But, no “news”casts ever claim this. Hmmmmm....
This is impossible because Dear Leader declared the War On Terror completed.
There is a problem here. Yes, there are many potential terrorists in our midst, but they didn’t necessarily start fires. They could but...
The problem is that the government can say “terrorists” about any problem just so they can justify spying on Americans and ignoring the Constitution. The government morons can then justify doing anything they want because of the “potential” terrorism. I believe the terrorists that do exist are total morons because there are so many thousands of things that they could be doing to create disruption in this somewhat free society...but they don’t. So the question becomes confused. Freedom entails some risk. We should kill terrorists immediately and humiliate them whenever they threaten or do terrorist acts. Leave the average American citizen alone.
Would be very helpful as would allowing companies to log out dead trees in areas ravaged by beetle kill. Unfortunately the area in the black forest fire is not a forest so much as a wooded residential area, as you can tell by the number of homes lost. There are similar communities spread all through the Colorado foothills and front range.
Agreed 100%. They use ‘terrorism’ as an excuse for everything, now.
I’ve heard what a giant dead tree will do when it comes down during a fire. Due to the energy of the fall, the embers shoot out in all directions for very long distances.
Cleaning out the dead wood, indeed, would make these fires far less devastating.
I have heard for decades that 99 percent of forest fires are started by lightning. Are you saying that you have recently heard the other claim?
There are areas in the Colorado front range where 90+% of trees are dead from beetle kill. The envirowhackos will not allow logging out of the dead wood. There will be many devastating fires in the years to come. Interestingly the black forest fire was in healthy trees, though it is very dry in Colorado over the past few years.
Are you up in the Jemez?
The “vandals” also cut the fiber optic line.
‘To be liberal is to cease to BE. I dont get it.’
But darn it, one can feel good about themselves when they sit down in the evening for that first toke...
And our ever-vigilant government is planning to import a bunch of Syrian militants. Wow! Are we ever lucky to be governed by these people.
Nut-job Conspiracy Theory Ping!
To get onto The Nut-job Conspiracy Theory Ping List you must threaten to report me to the Mods if I dont add you to the list...
Look a rag head riding a camel starting a fire with a flame thrower would be covered up.
What makes you think they wait until evening? Haven’t you heard of “wake and bake”?
From Smokey Bear Guidelines:
Statistics showed that nine out of ten of the fires were person-caused and, thus, preventable. With this in mind, in 1942 the Forest Service organized the Cooperative Forest Fire Prevention Program with the help of the Wartime Advertising Council. The Wartime Advertising Council was composed of people experienced in the business of advertising who donated their talent to the U.S. Government to get important messages to the people.
Posters and slogans were created through the Wartime Advertising Council, including "Forest Fires Aid the Enemy," and "Our Carelessness, Their Secret Weapon." By using catchy phrases, colorful posters and other fire prevention messages, the CFFP Program encouraged people to prevent accidental fires and help with the War.
... PS: Granted, the Smokey Bear emphasis was on carelessness, not malice, however the point remains that, especially today, we have every reason to believe there are enemy agents behind some or even many of the wildfires.
Sad to say, but some of those terrorists wear the uniform of the USFS.
