Obama loses German hearts and minds ahead of Berlin visit

BERLIN—When Barack Obama last visited Berlin back in 2008, Constanze Fröhlich felt like she was part of history. “He was about to become the first black president—I wanted to support that,” the 35-year-old university researcher told Yahoo News. “It was really amazing so many people were there.” Back then, in a surprising outpouring of Teutonic affection for Obama, a euphoric crowd of 200,000 turned up to hear the Democratic presidential contender speak in the German capital. “People of the world: Look at Berlin, where a wall came down, a continent came together, and history proved that there is no challenge too great for a world that stands as one,” he told the rapturous masses. “This city, of all cities, knows the dream of freedom.” But five years later, Germany’s love affair with the U.S. president has gone cold. Obama can still expect Chancellor Angela Merkel to give him a grand reception on his official two-day visit. But his high-profile speech on Wednesday in front of the city’s Brandenburg Gate—almost exactly 50 years after John F. Kennedy’s historic “Ich bin ein Berliner” address—will be given to a vetted audience of only a few thousand. And it’s doubtful hundreds of thousands would have turned up to listen to Obama had it been open to the public anyway. Average Germans these days appear at best mildly disillusioned and at worst deeply angry with the man who promised hope and change. “I thought it was great that he became president. But there’s more distance now. He’s been consumed by daily politics,” said Fröhlich.

Like too many Americans, I don't think the Germans have come to terms with what Obama really is. If most had, he'd be met with torches and pitchforks wherever he goes. 47% approval (Gallup) in the US is about 47% higher than Obama objectively deserves.

if google hadn't systematically and deliberately and maliciously "disappeared" over half a million hits on image searches for "obama birth certificate" in mid-July 2008

They actually did that? Or you think they actually did that?

I watched them do it. I’m one of the early birthers.

That half million figure? That’s mine based on the number of hits on July 10th, vs the number of hits on July 17th.

I also gave running total reports here on FR during that time period, if you care to check. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2045807/posts

Oh, and on July 10th, the hits reported were mostly actually of obama’s birth certificate, straight-up, and analyzed. On the 17th, they were mostly cakes, bowls of fruit, party scenes, diplomas and flattering portraits of obama.

“Oh, and on July 10th” should be “Oh, and on July 17th”

The Germans knew what obama would do to us... they celebrated our end... but they never expected him to do those things to them... and he has.

“This is why I am extremely distrustful of Europeans as a group. Many of them are statist/leftists/fascists/collectivists. It is part of their DNA.”

Yes. I’ve met many Europeans and even the most conservative of the lot would vote for Obama and can’t stand Republicans. They are a good 2 generations ahead of us in terms of their educational and media-based collectivist indoctrination. They are our future.

Yep.

Your average Western European is a backwards idiot and probable Stalinist wearing a mask. They fervently advocate economic practices that are doomed to failure, and they do so with froth coming out of their mouths when you disagree with them. I once got into it with some Dutch kid who was adamant about the Euro currency, but I told him that all it did was create inflation and subsequently stagflation which basically barred anyone from owning a house until they were well into their 40s.

The Western Euros are idiots, mostly. Yes, there are a few here and there that are Conservative as we are, but they are the exception, not the rule.

Take for example the handful of Euros that are fighting back against muslim arson and rapes in places like England, Sweden and France. There are a few in there, but I wonder if they can stop the terrorism sweeping the continent?

Eastern Europeans are a tough lot, but the Western ones are wimps who will probably lose the fight. One thing I respect about Romanians is their hard stand and firefights against Ceauceascu and the communists from December 1989, and they also consider Vlad Tepes a National Hero for staving off the invading muslim hordes.

Yep, those of us back in 2007 have been watching insanity right before our eyes.

I remember a lot of us were just flabbergasted at how the media and Obama manipulation information.

Hawaii government was the worst though. I used to think, this guy has crooks EVERYWHERE!!
