Kerry Doesn’t Thank Bush at PEPFAR Celebration

On Tuesday, Secretary of State John Kerry spoke at PEPFAR’s 10th anniversary celebration. During his opening remarks, Kerry thanked both Democrats and Republicans for their involvement in the program and for their bipartisanship. However, Kerry forgot to thank a key proponent of PEPFAR, President George W. Bush. PEPFAR, which stands for the ‘President’s Emergency Plan For AIDS Relief ‘ was established by Bush and committed over $15 billion dollars to fight the global HIV/AIDS pandemic.

Additionally, PEPFAR’s website cites President Bush for originally introducing the legislation in 2003, which has been described as “the largest commitment in history by any nation to combat a single disease.”
