Iran didn’t not want to incite the U.S. to go all Gulf War on them. Remember Iran was in a war with Iraq, a country whom they had a three-to-one population advantage over and was fighting them to a standstill. They knew the U.S. owed them a super-size delivery of whuppass and they didn’t want to get the public riled up so that Clinton would have been forced to take action. Libya never officially claimed responsibility for Pan Am 103, for much the same reason.

Even today, the U.S. has the capability to cut through the Iranian military like a hot knife through butter. The mistake we made in Iraq was nation building. We should have wrecked their military, destroyed their infrastructure so that they’ll be reading by lamp light for the next two generations and drawing water with hand pumps and buckets.

revenge is a dish best served cold

and no, the most professional state sponsored or state affliated terrorists don’t “take credit” for their actions

who says the govt of Iran would ever publicly claim a terrorist act? who even says the “govt” of Iran made the decision? maybe the “moderates” didnt know what the mullahs and Rev Guard were planning, not that they could disclaim it, at least that is what the Clintoons would say to justify taking no action

“hey the Iranian govt/moderates claim they didnt know about this rogue operation and we US interests dont want to jeopardize the Iranian moderates by retaliation would we so let’s call it a draw, we lost a plane full of people, they lost a plane full of people (even though the Iranians were playing chicken with a US warship)... so let’s just call it a mechanical malfunction and we can all agree to get along.... President Bubba”

high level statesmanship
the message was sent
Clinton blinked

Soon there will be posters here to defend the center fuel tank theory. Personally I think Clinton ordered it down for some reason. Maybe someone who had the goods on him was on that plane.

Makes sense. I always wonder why we haven’t seen more commercial airliners brought down by ground-to-air missiles over the past 20 years. It seems like a trivial task for a determined terrorist.

Don’t know how many remember this...but Pierre Salinger, JFK’s old press secretary held a news conference from the relative safety of France...and called out the US government on this story...he died shortly thereafter.

I wouldn't call 8 years 'shortly thereafter'. Salinger died in 2004.

nor do I find it credible that 5 months after Vincennes downed Iranian airbus, Qadaffi decided to bomb PanAm 103 3 days before Christmas, a plane packed full of holiday travelers

Qadaffi and his hapless intelligence service were the tools but not the brains. Qadaffi owed Iran a big favor, or more

Yer forgetting....
We sold the Shah a bunch of F-15s and their DUAL PURPOSE air to air missiles. They were supposed to be used on Naval ships in the AA mode as well, but never were in the US Navy.
No reason why the Mulahs couldn’t get one aboard a fishing boat, launch it at the jet, and shove the launch rack over the side. Bye-bye evidence.
IMHO—there was an El Al 747 scheduled fifteen minutes later, and they mistook Flt. 800 for the Israeli jet. Not that they weren’t happy with the one they hit.
Either way, they got thier desired reaction from the Clintoons.

While waiting for breakfast this morning at a local resturant, the establishments TV was on Good Morning America covering this story, with anchor George Stephapolus, how rich is that? But I’m sure no one will question any credibilty here......

I’ve have been an aviation enthusiast for 40+ years and have worked in the industry for nearly 25 years after attending an Aviation only university and gradutaing with and an engineering degree with a focus on aircraft structures AND Nobody hates J. Gorelick more than me.

This looks to me like a center fuel tank issue and NOT a missile. I’m familiar with the 747 systems, the JT9D engines and aerodynamics of a damaged 747 having built and flown radio controlled versions with 4 ducted fans and having had a 3 hour guided tour of the JAL 123 Museum and EVERYTHING I have read in the official story about the flight path post explosion is plausible and mid air fuel tank explosions have taken out similar planes, very possibly including the SISTER plane to the 747 that was TWA800, back in the 1970’s.

I’m just saying....

The timing of his press conference was shortly after the shootdown.

Yeah but he didn't die shortly after that. He died 8 years later.

I didn’t mean to tie his death to the shootdown or press conference. Salinger claimed that US naval forces, at that time used to practice shootdowns by aiming at airliners as they lifted off from JFK. He claimed that he had information that someone accidentally let loose a real missile.

This was in the news for a day or two...then...as the MSM does...it disappeared.

Salinger later claimed that the media did not want the truth. I suspect it was a coverup on behalf of the Clintons.
