PRESCOTT, Ariz. - A nearly 11-square-mile wildfire in Arizona's Prescott National Forest is continuing to grow as more than 500 firefighters were dispatched to battle the blaze.
According to officials, 5,088 acres have burned, bringing Tuesday's estimate from 7,000 down.
The Doce Fire just west of Prescott sparked evacuations in the neighborhoods of Granite Basin Homes, Sundown Acres, Old Stage Acres, Mint Creek, and American Ranch.
Seven people evacuated spent Tuesday night at an American Red Cross Grand Canyon Chapter shelter at Yavapai College. So far, 460 homes have been evacuated.

Hundreds Evacuated by Doce Fire
UPDATE: Doce fire now at 7,000 acres
I took some pics yesterday, Yorkie, I’ll post them later.
Thanks for the thread!
Smoke was heavy and high over Sedona, yesterday - and they are saying it is even smokey in Flagstaff, from this fire.
Stay safe, BG!
We didn’t get the smoke. Thank Heavens! Check your FRmail.
I join in prayer for everyone at risk from this tragedy!
Praying! Stay safe!
So I suppose you’re waiting for me to go to sleep until you post the photos, eh? Some of the more impatient of us do have to be on shift at 0’dark thirty :o)
I'm closer than this. Gulp.
Prayers up for safety
No worries - I think you have been more than a little busy : \
May God keep watch,
Okay.......check in already.
[So, BG, how are you doing today? Are you in the potential evacuation zone?]
If I know her, she’s busy packing up her sewing room, just in case.
Grammy, you pay attention to where the smoke is coming from, okay? Fires here in AZ can shift direction on a moment’s notice and when they run, they run FAST!
Prayers up for you and ol’ what’s-his-name.
Checking in. :)
The Feds apparently are here helping but I’ve not seen a plane drop yet on MY side of the mountain which has NOW BEGUN BURNING even more so than yesterday.
Am I the only Freeper up here I wonder??
Please pray for these firefighters that no one is hurt.
I’m having a pre-maybe-hope-it-doesn’t-happen evac party.
Any takers? :)
I admit I don’t know the area on the “other” side of the mountain, but a huge BLACK cloud of smoke just appeared on the NW side of the mountain.
I PRAY...please join me...that the first home isn’t burning.
It’s I think, where the evacuated homes are. I think.
Somebody on this thread, please put me on this ping list?
Stay safe, everyone!!
I don’t think there IS a ping list. Looks like its a BG’s periodic posting list.
Just have your stuff ready if you have to run.Take food for the dog too and water.
I’ll just be sure to check in periodically.
UB is over on the dry side of Mingus Mt.
I don’t know about anyone else, but then again, my stomping grounds are down here along the border!
Yet again.......thank you. You’re a good guy...don’t let ANYone tell ya otherwise!
One of these days it’s going to get me in trouble!
Think Nana would let me come up there and help you evac if it became necessary?
Think I could get up there in time to help, if it became necessary? I doubt it. You’re at least 5 hours away...
5 hours? Get on your bike and start peddling! :)
Check THIS one out.....
“Sciacca’s firefighting efforts have been hampered by the fact that the five heavy air tankers, including the DC-10, that have been working the fire have been reassigned to a fire in New Mexico.
“We still have four heavy helicopters, and they are very effective,” he noted. “Those tankers are national resources...if I need an air tanker, I’ll have to make a case (for one to be assigned).”
Asked why they all were moved, Sciacca said, “That decision is beyond my level.”
Did you know that the city of Prescott was named after the author of The History Of The Conquest Of Mexico? Great book.
Well, I still have a house over there, but right now I'm over in E. Texas (but not by choice).
Hey! There ya are!!! East Texas, huh? West would be better...but you probably already know that.
The fire’s probably, Lord willing, NOT going to go much further IN towards Prescott or towards my humble abode...
