A conservative group is challenging Democrat Ed Markeys Massachusetts residency less than a week before he faces a special election for a U.S. Senate seat in that state.
Markey, currently a member of the House of Representatives, should legally be considered a resident of Maryland, America Rising PAC stated in a Tuesday complaint filed with the Maryland state comptroller.
The group also claims Markey violated Maryland law by failing to file Maryland tax returns despite living primarily in that state.
Markey has vehemently denied that he is officially a Maryland resident. He dismissed information in a debate on Tuesday on his tax returns that showed his primary residence is in Maryland.
Oh, it is Massachusetts, he said. That was just the accountant who made a mistake.
America Rising stands by its complaint. Markey loves new taxes except the ones hes not paying to his home state of Maryland, Tim Miller, the groups executive director, said in an email.
The Maryland law is explicit and the public record of Markey’s residency indicates he may owe taxes in Maryland, not Massachusetts, Miller added.
Markey and his wife purchased a home in Chevy Chase, Md., in 1991, according to the complaint. That home was listed as his primary residence until 2001, when he purchased his parents home in Malden, Mass.
Under Maryland law, a home is considered a primary residence if the occupant spends at least 183 days of the year there. America Risings complaint cites news reports that indicate he spent at least 195 days at his Maryland home.
Other indicators suggest Markey spends less time in Malden than he claims.
Markeys Malden water bills suggest he is there infrequently, paying only the monthly minimum for service, noted a February report in the Boston Globe.
House records show that he and his staff have spent less annually from his official budget on travel over the last four years than any of the states other House members, which could suggest he travels back to his district less often, the Globe reported.
The campaign of Gabriel Gomez, Markeys Republican opponent, has seized on the discrepancies in Markeys declared residencies.
Six days until Election Day in Massachusetts, Ed Markey is still trying to fool voters into believing he lives here despite the fact that he lives in a mansion in Chevy Chase, Gomez spokesman Leonardo Alcivar told the Washington Free Beacon in an email.
The Markey campaign did not return a request for comment.
He’s a Democrip. He can live anywhere he wants.
Markay on Markey
What’s good for the Rick Santorum goose is good for the Ed Maaaaaahkey gander.
If he lived on the moon Mass voters would still vote him in. “D” uber alle.
I live on Adams Street in Malden. Which is around the corner from Townsend Street. I have known Ed Markey since my sister unfortunately got me involved in his State Representative run in High School. Even when he comes to Malden for events he can’t avoid. He does not stay there with his wife. The house is so empty that the Oxy addicts in the neighborhood don’t even bother to break in. there are only four Markey for Congress signs on some of the surrounding houses where Municipal employees live. When he does stay over with some staffers. There are trash bags full of empty beer cans left in front of his house until trash day. They are NOT the Blue Bags that we have to purchase from the City of Malden as part of Pay As You Throw.
Thank goodness I wasn’t taking a sip when Maaahkey blamed his accountant for the redacted address on his tax form, in response to a question from Gabriel Gomez during the debate.
I would have sprayed the entire living room wall. What a lyin’ sack.
Maybe he just doesn’t bathe very often...
Thanks for the info. So the Malden house is used primarily as a beer hall for Markey staff!!!
I apologize since it’s your neighborhood, but that is a hoot!
...and I’ll be surprised if this is anything more than “a bump in the road”.
And with that, the Democrats, media, and RINOs, who had gathered to hear the words of the great senator, laughed and laughed.
finally and “October surprise” on a RAT!!
Wexler was living elsewhere too. Dems don’t seem to like to live in their districts or states.
Is Maaaaahkey still pushing that stupid bill the NAB wanted to require all manufacturers of wireless devices to incorporate a radio receiver into them?
Or be from Keyna for that matter
Or an Indonesian madrassa.
I spent most of my life living in this twit’s district. I don’t recall ever seeing him there.
Maryland “Freak State” PING!
That all went out the window once Hitlery became Senator.
Dems are conservationists, they don't flush much.
It must be true, according to post #7 “There are trash bags full of empty beer cans left in front of his house until trash day.”
LOL! They’re either not flushing or whizzing in the yard!
