Republican Alaska Lt. Gov. Mead Treadwell announced Tuesday that he will run for Senate next year.
He enters as the apparent frontrunner against Joe Miller, a conservative who blew the 2010 race, in a GOP primary.
Alaskans are very concerned about what is, or is not, happening in Washington, D.C, Treadwell said in a statement on his web site. So am I.
Now attention turns to Natural Resources Commissioner Dan Sullivan, who was Sarah Palins appointee as Alaska attorney general. If he gets in the race, the two candidates acceptable to the establishment could divide the vote.

This is one of the seats we need to take the Senate in 2014. Alaskan Freeper assessments requested on this one, on both the current climate surrounding Democrats and Begich in the state, Treadwell's conservative credentials, and an analysis of what tactic should be pursued her.
Although I'm not an Alaskan I'd wager that they're concerned by what is *and* is not happening in DC.
Maybe Alaskans will correct me, but I don’t think Joe Miller “blew” the election.
Miller WON the primary against Murkowski. Then Murkowski turned around and ran against him in the general election as an independent. The GOPe did everything they could to push Murkowski into the Senate, including letting her keep her chairmanship even though she was breaking all the rules and running against a duly nominated Republican candidate.
And they spread the money around, buying the tribal Eskimo vote and engaging in other corrupt practices. Murkowski, of course, belonged to the GOPe in Alaska as her father’s daughter. She belonged to what Sarah Palin and others called “the Corrupt Bastards Club.”
She stands for everything that is corrupt and the opposite of conservative.
Oh, I’m well aware of this hag’s filthy tricks. Miller should have won that seat, and would have, if she’d have accepted her defeat.
What I want to know is where we can strike the best balance here to remove Begich and nominate a conservative.
You gave some great history there, many forget, or didn’t know that the Senate GOP was supporting Murkowski and reassuring the voters that they would forgive them about the primary if they elected Murkowski.
But Miller made a pretty big gaffe and hurt his momentum when he took a step back from the Palins, it was a mistake and a revealing one, and it still lingers with some.
The Democrats in Alaska abandoned their own candidate (Scott McAdams) to write-in sore loser Murkowski.
Alaska is a pretty corrupt state.
It’s easy to be corrupt here because of all the Federal money coming in to the state.
I trust Sarah Palin.
I love Alaska but a lot of things here really suck.
You know, Mark Begich is really pulling out all the stops for the Repub vote with his votes in Senate against Gun Control and the UN ect. I hear some locals say they are voting for him, surprised me. I just wish he'd change partys then he would get re-elected. Most Alaskans see Mark as outta his league and not getting much done. Mark has a brother, Nick; thats for real and is a Libitarian; wish he'd be in the mix.
Donny Young will always get relected, everybody trusts him and knows where he stands on just about everything. He maybe a crook, but he's our crook and I just wish he'd have one of his daughters run for his seat. We need an Indian Repub with donny's bloodline in the Senate. Donny Young is a big hunter too, you can trust his judgement.
I still have my big Miller sign in the shed, have to hang her back up. I think many Alaskans will support Miller too. But, ya know; I'd really get motivated if Sarah got in the race; she's the only Ak political that I'd give money to or really get excited about. Man, Palin was the best gov I ever seen anywhere in my lifetime.
Mead is a personal friend and a great conservative. He’ll be an awesome Senator representing Alaska and the rest of us.........
“..... Joe Miller, a conservative who blew the 2010 race, in a GOP primary.” This is a lie, but of course since it is a lie about a Republican it doesn’t matter.
