In what pro-life advocate are cheering as another celebration of life from newly-minted Pope Francis, the head of the Catholic Church invited a teen with Down Syndrome for a ride on the famous Popemobile.
As the Associated Press reports:
Pope Francis has given a 17-year-old boy with Down Syndrome the ride of his life sort of.
Francis invited Alberto di Tullio up onto his open-top Mercedes at the end of his general audience Wednesday, letting him spin around on the pontiffs white chair while tens of thousands of people looked on.
The boys father, Celestino di Tullio, told The Associated Press he choked up when Francis approached his son: The pope saw him, embraced him. Then Alberto pointed to the car, and so he brought him up!
Perhaps Francis eye was caught by the blue-and-white-striped Argentine national soccer jersey Alberto was wearing a gift that the di Tullios parish priest gave him Wednesday morning before they set out from Boiano, near Naples, for the audience.
In March, Pope Francis took time to stop and offer a blessing for a disabled man.
Well that’s a classy move, and I think the good Lord smiled.
You give them enough credit to call them women?
I said “lizzard” women. Implying that even though they are reptile they are female reptiles.
I saw only a few seconds of the Pope with the kid and I’ll admit I got a little teary eyed! The Pope had such a big smile on his face it was nice to see that, too!
here is a good pic
Well they are certainly misled. Personally I would refrain from demeaning them, because they are demeaning their own selves. They’re basically saying “God damn me.” Which has to frustrate His love immensely; God would rather they be saved. So why should we damn them. It’s between God and them now.
This will eat at them. And that’s a good thing.
I agree with you. I just refuse to call them “retarded” and am implying that their behavior is “reptile” in nature.
That is so touching and a very powerful message.
Well, I think we have a perfectly good word: evil.
Lord willing ... it will burn at their souls and nag at their consciences ... May God grant them the grace of repentance and conversion. Perhaps this will be the kick-in-the-arse necessary to get them (or someone) headed in the right direction.
I really like the Pope but I’m concerned that while it’s great he mingles and talks with the people, something bad will happen.
I’m sure he’s not afraid of death but it would be a great loss for the rest of us. It is nice to see him so outgoing and cheerful, though.
Yes, may they wake up.
This is wonderful!
Thanks for posting!
The love in the Popes eyes for this child of God speaks volumes.
Thanks for the pic.
Thanks for posting this. It’s refreshing to see people who appreciate God’s great gift of life.
Pope Francis is making me look at the Catholic faith with a new set of eyes. He is the kind of minister who brings the faith to people outside his inner circle.
