A spectacular 16.5-acre estate originally part of George Washington's famed Mount Vernon is up for sale for a presidential $25 million, despite needing renovations. Steeped in American history, the waterfront property, located in Alexandria, Virginia, is on the market for the first time in half a century. Named River View Estate after its 383 feet of uninterrupted vistas of the Potomac River, the residence makes plain why Washington once proclaimed: 'I had rather be on my farm than emperor of the world.' The estate boasts a 6,000-square foot manor home, 2,000-square foot guest house, four-car garage, carriage house and staff quarters that are, according to the listing 'poised for modern renovations.'

This is for you. I hear that interest rates are soon to rise, so you’d better strike quickly!

The Fairy King would love that place, and he could have white slaves to serve his every whim.

Heck, the price is a bargain compared with his African expedition.

Yes it will no doubt be a conquest of some Saudi or Chinese outfit, useful to impress guests that they now own the home of GW.

Ironic that we go to UK based newspaper websites for US news. I have to admit they do provide good coverage.

Thanks so much for the post and the ping, aftr! Great stuff...as you likely know, the original Mount Vernon lands covered much more territory than they do today, but I do not know if it originally went all the way to Alexandria. This estate might have been disconnected from the original.

My Xth great-grandfather owned a farm near George Washington and was the overseer for the Mt. Vernon Muddy Hole Farm. There is a contract between him and George Washington among Washington’s papers.

I lived in Alexandria for a short time and did not realize that I was living a few miles from my ancestor’s farm. The only thing a could afford of that area now is a postcard picture.

I picture 16 acres of ugly taupe condos with a half acre preserved to “honor” the history of our founder.

Hurry! Interest rates are on the rise!

See if you qualify. Starting in the low 700’s.
