I don’t mean to sound gory, but my ultralow opinion of Assad would go up a notch or two if he decided to hang the entire lot.
They may have another use. Anyone dumb enough to convert to Islam and join a holy war is dumb enough to be flipped. Assad could probably persuade these people to join his cause and prove their loyalty by becoming suicide bombers against the rebels.
