Return the Amber Room to Russia and maybe they'll comply.

It makes it very hard to play the victim card when it is so blood stained.

Yeah, the Germans are not going to get a lot of sympathy from the rest of the world on that. And Stalin knew it well. As far as he was concerned, they were owed. I can't say I blame him, and defending old, bloodthirsty commies pains me to the core.

And when you saw how German minorities acted up in Czechoslovakia and Poland before the war, it certainly made it hard to garner any sympathy for them after they were expelled from those countries after the war.

His response to Merkel should have been, “Sure. You return the Amber Room and we’ll return the Eberswalde Hoard.”

The most accepted theory is that the Red Army destroyed the Amber Room inadvertently in the fires that raged in the seizure of Konigsberg.

True enough. You could say that about just about any European ethnics. I can’t think of any to whom I’d hand a straight-razor, then turn my back. British, maybe, but one can say they’re not really Europe, and one can also say they’re not really British anymore either....

It would seem that the spoils go to the victor. It would be like Israel giving back the Golan Heights as a moral equivalent. No way, no how.

Don’t lose a war. That simple.

Speaking of which, there's a few European cathedrals that the Catholics would like back.

No, but Schliemann, the German archeologist working the Troy
site circa 1870s, did. Much was shipped to Berlin.

“German minorities acted up in Czechoslovakia and Poland”

Be careful there. Germans were not the minority in all those places, and had been living there just as long as the Poles.

Hitler had agent provocateurs in those countries to advocate separation from the host countries.

There were folks living there that had lived there for centuries in Germany. Are you saying folks that lived in Koenigsberg were ‘agents provocateurs?

Koeningsberg was a part of the Reich before Hitler took over, unlike the Sudetenland and Silesia, which belonged to Czechoslovakia and Poland respectively.
