County wants to be 51st state
WND ^ | 6/21/13 | Jack Minor

GREELEY, Colo. – A county in Colorado that was immortalized in the novel and 1978 miniseries “Centennial” once again could achieve fame as it finds itself in a unique position among America’s counties – considering a bid to become the 51st state.

Weld County is one of the nation’s largest counties, and at nearly 3,000 square miles it is larger than the combined land areas of Rhode Island, Delaware and the District of Columbia. The county was also immortalized in James Michener’s “Centennial,” a novel about a fictitious town whose history mirrored the history of the state.

County officials have made national news several times in recent months for their strong stand for constitutional rights including the Second Amendment. However, following a particularly contentious legislative session where Democrats controlled both chambers of the legislature as well as the governorship, the divide has gotten so great that county commissioners are seriously entertaining asking voters to decide if they want to secede and form the state of North Colorado.

No. For one reason, how do you arrange 51 stars on a flag? For another, What kind of a name is "Weld" for a state? And finally, we only have 2 square states as it is.

Yes that too. What good comes from declaring a new state when the federal government has all but repealed the 10th amendment?

Not to mention that they have emasculated the Fourth, have turned the First totally on its head and are are coming after the Second "by any means necessary" as Obama's mentor, Malcolm X, would say!

"Riamh nár dhruid ó sbairn lann!"

Genuflectimus non ad principem sed ad Principem Pacis!

Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)

It lacks symmetry but I suppose it would do. It would be better to add a couple more at the same time, so that we get something like #53. This gives Peurto Rico another shot. But the more important issue is this: are you really willing to live in a country with only one square state?

53 makes more sense... it's a prime number... giving us "One nation, under God, indivisible..."!!!

Thank you, I'm here all week. Try the salmon.

Hold on just one moment. Wouldn’t that make it the 58th state?

Become part of Wyoming. They are next to the capitol of Wyoming, at Cheyenne.

It would make more sense if they just declare independence.

Who would want to join US statehood now?

Personally, I’d like to see the stars and stripes with a 13 star flag, one for each of the original 13 colonies.

They could be arranged like they are on the $1 dollar bill over the eagle. Believe that’s called a “Solomon’s Seal”?

Cool. I was wondering how the flag would look like with additional states.

I see Obama’s mythical 57 state socialist republic.

I personally like the completely square ones or the ones with stars in all 4 corners. Two examples would be 54 stars and 59 stars respectively.

Not gonna happen.

They have a better chance to join Wyoming.

Texas is the only state that is “allowed” by original agreement to break up into additional states. This would be one way to frustrate the coming democrat attempt to change Texas into a democrat fiefdom via immigration.
However, if that were to happen, I don’t think the newly composed democrat legislature would approve it. So, it’s not gonna happen.

Weld County is one of the nation’s largest counties, and at nearly 3,000 square miles

One of the largest? Catron County, NM is more than twice the size, and Socorro County, NM almost so.

I like numbers 59 and 68 the best. Both fill up the corners best. Each has the most symmetry.

It would never get past the state legislature either. Democrats control both houses.

Weld County seems to vote Republican pretty consistently for President—so 3 electors for the Republican candidate and 2 likely Republican senators. Obviously Congress would never permit that.

LOL! A geometry purist. I can relate to that. Actually, I live in a country with only one quadrilateral province, and it is neither a square nor a rectangle.

They ought to keep the name 'Colorado' and make the rest of the state change their name. They're the ones that suck.

"LOL! A geometry purist."

If I was a geometry purist, I would have called it a rectangle, and would prefer to live in a round state.
