Global warming: Austria’s famed lakes heating up quickly

Austria’s famed alpine lakes are facing fundamental change as global temperatures continue warm.

Projected increases in water temperatures will likely alter basic structure, function and water quality in famed lakes, according to Dr. Martin Dokulil, a retired researcher from the Institute for Limnology at the University of Innsbruck in Austria.

The study analyzed 1965-2009 temperature data for the nine lakes in Austria’s different climatic regions, showing water temperatures rising parallel to air temperatures, with the biggest increases in the spring and summer.

Summertime, and the living is easy....

Have they done a head count on swimmers? Municipal and/or industrial discharge?

Any volcanic activity nearby?

Amazing scientific discovery!

BINGO

Tectonic activity and subterranean shifting

But that's too hard, because global warming and all that.

I wonder what the source is for those graphs? Global temperatures have dropped 3C which is not reflected in these graphs which makes me doubt the source.

Unprecedented? Shockingly? Just brewin’ up some tea? Boilin’ some shrimps? The illustrious king hussein just told the Germans the other day how hot it’s gettin’. Just check out his overworked sweat glands. Where’s the flies? He’s gonna put an end to all this warming. Yup. Sure ya are. Reminds me of those old margarine commercials about tryin’ to fool mother nature. It ain’t nice. And it don’t work. Didiots!

Sorry, but projections do not alter structures, it's basic freakin' fizzicks, dontcha know.

Thank you capt. obvious. And if they cool, they will face similar changes. Is there anyone who studies nature and expects steady state behavior? These"projections" what are they based on, how were they calculated, and what is their sensitivity to changes in input conditions, to other factors? What are the underlying assumptions of your models? I can put together very believable models that'll show any outcome you would like....

Nice try.

Ain’t buying it.

Real scientists don’t do global warming.

One small region of the world warming is NOT global warming - it ‘weather’...

Look folks, what do you think caused the tectonic shifts and changing thermals? It was humans and their carbon butt prints. Get with the program.

They just had to present this study, now these poor lakes are soon condemned to be frozen all year long.

If the lakes are boiling it’s easier to catch ready-cooked crawfish!

Nice!

Maybe they haven't seen the movies where volcanic activity turns bodies of water into acidic, sulfurous crab-boil pots...

The graphs only go to 2000.

Atmospheric global warming has not advanced in 15 years.

The data is not in the article, so it is impossible to see where reality and mathematical projections diverge.

The links in the article, which I used in trying to find the data in the actual research, require a $40+ purchase of the research paper in one case and in the other lead to a dead end - supposedly published in Hydologia in June 2013 but not found in the June 2013 volumes.

Articles like this that have no data are not helpful for real discussion - too much “scientific opinion” and not enough “scientific facts”.
