U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry emerged Saturday from meetings here with Western and Mideast counterparts who support Syrian rebels against President Bashar al-Assad and vowed to make every effort to end the conflict.

The CIA is training a number of Syrian rebel forces at bases in Jordan, according to senior U.S. officials.

Combatants entering Syria from other countries are also fueling the fight.

Foreign Sunni militants are joining the ranks of the rebels. One of the largest groups, the al-Nusra Front, is affiliated with al Qaeda in neighboring Iraq.

It’s all directed by Obama, Kerry is merely a willing stooge.

Those training bases could be taken out by Russian special forces if Putin wants to up the ante.

This is the difference between Republican and Democrat thinking about foreign intervention:

In the Republican view, you go into the country with a kick-ass attack, wipe out the other side, and then spend trillions of dollars over the next decade “democratizing” the place so the bad guys can take it over via the ballot box.

In the Democratic view, you send in advisors, covert CIA operatives and otherwise don’t get directly involved, until you get sucked in, and then send an army in there with restrictive rules of engagement, and spend trillions of dollars over the next decade until you negotiate its transfer to the bad guys.

Examples: Viet Nam, Iraq, Afghanistan and maybe Syria will be next.

I can hear Kerry now...

“We need a political settlement. Can’t we just get along? You just need to find a common enemy among yourselves:

What’s wrong with going back to killing the Jews?”

What's the problem? That's always worked in the past, hasn't it?

“Foreign Sunni militants are joining the ranks of the rebels.”

What a hoot!!!

“Foreign Sunni” Islamists have been supporting & helping to engineer the Sunni Islamist putsch in Syria since long before anyone ever heard the term “Syrian opposition movement”.

And guess what - WE (Yes the U.S.) was there “at the creation”.

This is a redo of the “U.S. agenda” serving a local agenda that has had it’s core a leadership that will not be our “best friends” in the long term, in the same manner as was our “help” in Afghanistan 1979-1989, and we all know how that worked out.

Yeah. He wants a “political settlement.” But Assad, the Russians and the Iranians want victory. Any bets on the outcome? Not that it matters: one crowd is no better than the other. We should butt out.
