Nobody's buying booze with an EBT card!

Of course not -- the EBT benefits are exchanged for cash and that cash is used to buy the booze. I guess that makes it OK, huh?

How? Besides, I don't like this EBT business anyway, but I'd like to know exactly how one does that exchange, unless you have an unscrupulous grocer. They exist and have gotten in trouble for it, but they could just as easily find a way to sell the booze to the welfare queen anyway.

Did you really think that EBT cards can only be used at grocery stores? While that may have been the case in the distant past, that;s no longer true:
Welfare aid cards valid at casinos
State-issued debit cards work at some gaming floor ATMs.
Officials vow cutoff.
June 24, 2010|Jack Dolan

SACRAMENTO — California welfare recipients are able to use state-issued debit cards to withdraw cash on gaming floors in more than half of the casinos in the state, a Los Angeles Times review of records found.

The cards, provided by the Department of Social Services to help recipients feed and clothe their families, work in automated teller machines at 32 of 58 tribal casinos and 47 of 90 state-licensed poker rooms, the review found.

There have been many stories posted over the past few years about EBT cards being used at Hawaiian and Caribbean vacation destinations. Fraud is rampant.

By the way, back in the old days, I was living in Oakland, CA.

Depending on how long it was until the next welfare check was due, food stamps could easily be bought for 35 to 50 cents on the dollar anywhere in the general vicinity of any grocery store. The fraud is now just being done electronically rather than with paper stamps.

I am shocked that you find buying this kind of frivolous bullsh*t with EBT funds acceptable! Really!? You REALLY endorse this?

EBT, welfare, and all the rest need to be immediately terminated. This has gone on long enough.

Both of you think I approve of EBT, even though I SAID I don’t? Both of you can STFU and KMA while you’re at it. Learn to effing read. All I did was point out this product isn’t like buying alcohol while all you morons were jumping on this bandwagon claiming it is.

Yeah, I know it’s abused. Why do you think I don’t like it? The idea of having EBT cards is to “reduce stigma.” Well, I’m all for bring “stigma” back. I wish the cashier had to turn a flashing light on and call the manager for special approval every time some deadbeat tries to use food stamps.

Now go have a nice day.

It's freakin' fruit juice. There's plenty to be outraged about without worrying that marketers are pointing out other uses for their freakin' fruit juice.

I realize there are many teetotaling FReepers, but this is what's called a "mixer".

I never claimed it was like buying alcohol—I said it was frivolous! I stand behind my comment, as I reread your post and any plain reading seemed to support buying drink mixers with EBT as they are not themselves alcohol.
