Edward Snowden, the former US intelligence contractor who leaked classified documents revealing US internet and phone surveillance, has asked Ecuador for asylum.
The request was confirmed by Ecuador's foreign minister on Twitter.
Mr Snowden had fled the US for Hong Kong but flew out on Sunday morning and is currently in Moscow.

Just check out the highly suspicious death of Michael Hastings.
Ecuador is run by a Socialist clown in the same vein as Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro.
S! can see Russia!
It is not about the climate, it is about his security.
Snowden is a pawn in the new cold war.
Warm climes may be desirable for cold war warriors in exile but it did not work all that well for Trotsky.
He simply safer on some island in the North Atlantic than anywhere in the Southern Hemisphere.
If he really wants to stick it to the U.S. government, he should consider suicide. Who would believe it was really a suicide?
In 1985 National Security staffer Ollie North ordered commercial airliner over Mediteranean to be forced by US fighters to land in Sicily. That had the alleged Achille Lauro highjacker Abul Abbas on board.
I always felt that was a total violation of international law, but North and Reagan (as much as I otherwise respect them) were heralded as gutsy by many. Of course the libs and media hated it then (as I did). But if Bambi did it now, they would love it (and I would still hate it).
<....”why did he leave Hong Kong and not battle it out in the courts, instead choosing to flirt with this countrys enemies?”.....>
Because Assange is in charge and working this entire orchestration....Snowden’s in over his head willingly or not..I tend to think he was a computer nerd Assad got wind of/ or plantsed... so Assange is enjoying being back on stage Himself again...
...money’s pouring into Wikileaks again...they were loosing mega amounts prior...Assange had to do something to gain the
World’s Attention for that is his goal and plan in order to remain “in business”.
From an interview..
Where does Assange see WikiLeaks in 10 years?.....
“It’s not what I want the world to be. .....It’s what I want the rest of the world to be,” ......he replies. (Follow Me)
How he defines national security:
....’’We don’t,’ he says crisply.... “We’re not interested in that. ........ We are a supranational organisation..... So we’re not interested in national security.’’
Assange states....”We’re an international organisation. We deal with international problems,’’
The Chinese and the Russians don’t give a rat’s a$$ if the NSA is spying on American citizens. If Snowden had any intelligence value for them he would not have been allowed to leave. The bottom line here is that Snowden didn’t reveal anything they didn’t already know.
Of course zip. And fact is, KAL 007 was very deeply in Soviet Airspace over the time, over the Sakhalin Peninsula. This aircraft the Snowden will take to Ecuador I assume will go nowhere near US airspace, should be in international most of the time, with transit over other nations’ airspace. If Obama shot down a loaded public commercial airliner with many others aboard just to get to one man, there would be absolute holy hell to pay for it, believe me, mark my words. Worldwide.
>>>Tell that to KAL 007. What happened to the soviets? zip.<<<
Pretty irrelevant. KAL007 stranded into their restricted airspace and they’ve misidentified it as an RC-135.
All of the above are rarely possible today.
“Just check out the highly suspicious death of Michael Hastings.”
Indeed. It appears that Snowden is engaging in PSYOPS against our government.
As for the “one bullet would take care of it” crowd, I’d like to know what these people would do if they worked in an environment where daily abuses of their fellow citizens privacy and the mass collection of private data were collected and disseminated, in direct contradiction to the U.S. Constitution and our Bill of Rights?
Remain silent and allow the abuse to continue unfettered?
Sorry, but if that’s the case, I would consider Snowden the Patriot as opposed to those who would choose silence as some form of perverse duty. Duty to what and who?
That may change, depending on how Snowden acts going forward, but as of today, that man is a hero in my opinion.
“Plane heading for Ecuador goes down in storm.
One can only hope...

According to all the “experts” in the msm and government, this stupid high school drop out can’t outsmart the CIA, FBI, DOJ, NSA, DHS, etc etc....right???
He crossed the line into treason by doing that.
So he goes to Ecuador, a neighboring country to Colombia (main source of cocaine through Mexico to US) and a country which notably uses the US Dollar as it’s currency.
Highly malleable country Ecuador and the dollar connection, well it is too cute in re: bargaining and lining one’s pockets. With good relations with the Chi-coms, notably.
Snowden is yet another self appointed ethics hustler, and part of the wikileaks team, along with Assange who is currently residing in the Ecuadorian London embassy. My opinion, whole thing a chicom op, including wikileaks. We are no longer as free, thanks to these, their money loans their militarism, their lack of religious freedom—the new china, same as the old. Let’s see if he gets to Ecuador and stays there very long.
I despise the “my country right or wrong” mentality;when you believe your country is wrong you should not have to just accept it. By such “reasoning: any German who didn’t support the Nazi government whole-heartedly was a traitor.Yet which stance is better?
I am certain there are many dark secrets of American government that need to be exposed and the power of government cut back.
I suppose now they will come shoot my dog and stomp my cat to death .
But I should be GLAD just to be allowed to be “free” ?
What today’s Americans accept as free,pre-1861 Americans called tyranny! (I denote the action of governments in forcibly drafting men into the armies as a sure sign a society is not free.)
<....”Snowden is a pawn in the new cold war”....>
He’s Assange’s “puppet” for the time being...Snowden was likely planted by Assange, who had to do something to get back on the “world Stage” of interfering in Nation states and affecting the outcomes of those he chooses to intervene in.
Russia’s enjoying playing ‘O’ in this.....Putins basically saying He has “more flexability after the election”...
Assange has bases in Iceland and Kenya....possibly Siberia....not sure how Ecuador plays into that Equation but Assange certainly has pull there.
Rather ironic, considering that Ecuador’s extreme leftist president is in the process of getting a gag-law passed through his rubber-stamp legislature, directed entirely at muzzling the press.
Did some research. There are no direct flights from moscow to either Quito nor Guayaquil. The closest international flight would be via Amsterdam, the netherlands. So i guess he’ll get a special purpose direct flight on either a russian or ecuadorian government airliner.
