Interesting point. Thanks for the link - looked it up and found that the Fatimid was initially established 909 AD in Mahid, Tunisia which is where the first Arab Spring occurred. In 969 they conquered Egypt and built the city of Cairo, which became the capital of the caliphate. Egypt was where the second Arab Spring happened. A co-incidence...
One wonders why we didn’t help the green revolution in Iran since we’ve been helping all these other - get rid of the dictator “revolutions”. I guess since we/Carter had already installed the Ayatolla there was no need.

I don’t think we need to do much. The Shia/Sunni conflict is flaring up again in a big way due to the Obama supported Arab Spring and they won’t make peace with one another anytime soon. It’s a time of transition in these nations and the traditional power structure has shattered and the centuries old hatreds that have been smoldering will now burst into flames.
The danger is the one issue that seems to unite them - hatred of Israel. Let things get too bad over there and those in control will try to pull Israel into the conflict to rally the nation/region.
