Newsroom layoffs at The Oregonian have topped 35 reporters, editors and photographers today as the paper reduces home-delivery days and cuts staff.

Among the more prominent names WW has confirmed The Oregonian has laid off are editorial columnist David Sarasohn, environmental reporter Scott Learn, and Multnomah County reporter Dana Tims.

Many staffers have begun posting their own layoff announcements on the web.

Sports reporter John Hunt wrote this morning on Twitter that he is flying home after being laid off with a phone call in Omaha, Neb., where he was covering the Oregon State Beavers baseball team in the College World Series.

Never fear. Those jobs will be recreated for illegals once they get amnesty.

Was the Oregonian that big a paper to lay off 90 people and still have some left?

Even if the Oregonian folds altogether a problem is they come back to life reconstituted as an online publication — even more liberal, far to the left — like the Seattle-PI did. If you want daily daily pro-homo-marriage articles, naked bicycling pictures on the front page and a special column for ongoing Sara Palin ridicule, visit the PI online.

Historically, The Oregonian was a "union" paper for the many woodworkers and ocean cargo workers (in the old industrial days of Portland). I forget the name of the other paper from the old days, but it was "management's" paper (non union).

Glad to see this paper take it in the shorts (as did the Seattle P-I which had similar roots and editorial content).

Any conservative who continues to subscribe to any of these communist propaganda rags is giving aid and comfort to the sworn enemies of our Founders.

The distortions and half truths are easy to spot for the informed reader but the propagandists greatest tool is the spike. A story which never gets printer, or broadcast might as well never exist in the Low/No information voter’s mind.

What sane person pays their enemy to attack their core beliefs? Your money and time can be put to much greater use.

Newspapers were my major customers for 26 years and 1) the spike does exist and is used daily, 2) and most important for us, they cannot survive in most communities if all right leaning people drop their subscription. You CAN bankrupt them but you have to be part of the solution.

Do the country a favor and render them moot.

exactly.

The sweat workers (printers, typesetters, drivers...) will get laid off. The elite, academic types (writers, editors, lay up etc) will keep their job.

Talk about class-ism.

I love watching Communist rags taking their last gasping breaths.I just saw the other day that the NY Times has been trying to sell the Boston Globe (which is well known) but recently yet another potential buyer backed out.I will dance in the street when the Globe’s last day arrives.

the meteors of truth are killing them.

That and the fact that the news can be gleaned from the internet days earlier than reported in the newsrags and on the WH controlled network news shows.
