LARNARCA, Cyprus, June 24 (UPI) --Financially strapped Cyprus is looking at allowing Russian military aircraft to use an airbase in Paphos, the country's defense minister said this weekend.
Cypriot Defense Minister Fotis Fotiu told the Nicosia daily Fileleftheros the country was "studying the possibility of providing in certain cases" the use of the Andreas Papandreou Air Force Base for Russian military aircraft.
He also indicated allowing Russian warships to use the port of Limassol was under consideration, less than two weeks after Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the restoration of a permanent presence for the Russian fleet in the Mediterranean.

As I predicted during the Cyprus crisis, as Russia wants a Plan B if they lose their naval base in Syria.
Christofias is no friend of ours.
AFAIK, Russia along with Israel are playing to secure these newly discovered Cypriot natgas fields from possible Turkish takeover.
God is good as he’s no longer there...Russia is working with a Conservative. Christofias governed (5yrs) and was a spendthrift/globalist just like Obama. He ran the country into the ground and was such a total failure decided not to run again. I think it’s an excellent move by the Republic of Cyprus as they know that a “revolution” is just down the road.

All I can say is Christofias has been no friend to us.
So it is.
He was friends/allies with the powerful who want to undermine us, such as, Obama... Those powers who have/are instigating “revolutions” all over the globe. The Republic of Cyprus (Turkey occupying the north illegally) is placing their country’s safety into the protection of Russia.
Don’t even get me started on the loss of influence in Turkey.
Russia’s plan B was and always will be Turkey. It was every Tsars dream to control Constantinople and the Bosphorus. Putin is no different
Right now Turkish government is pushing an idea that it is a Russian KGB behind an anti-islamist unrest in their country.

Yep thinkin the same thing. Hate to see “the brotherhood” take over Syria though for the Russians have been a moderating force there.
Russia, unlike the USofObama, will do what is best in its national interests, especially under Putin.
The way things are stacked internationally now with the US being a major debtor nation; dumbed down working force; racial divide; and over used military we are in no position to dictate policy to anyone beyond some western european social republics and the like. Obama making threats is like the guy across the table in five card stud raising your single suit to the ace king while holding nothing higher than a 9, goading you to call.
The Russians aren’t going to give up their naval base without a fight which is in Alewite (however you spell it) territory. When the French had control over Syria that area wanted to be an independent country and it may wind up being that way . The question is can Russia control the forces there. There’s no love lost between Iran and Russia. With Russia siding with the Greeks on Cyprus don’t make the Turks none too happy. What amazes me in this day and age of anti-theism is this religious war within Islam thats gone on for centuries. Place is a powderkeg. Palin’s quip “let Allah decide” may not be the answer we want either.
I wouldn't mind that...maybe you can go back to Constantinople, after all.
Who do you side with? Putin or Obama? If you’re Cyprus? Pfff -is there really a decision here?
