A bill that opponents claimed would virtually ban abortion in Texas failed to pass late Tuesday after lawmakers missed a deadline by just minutes.
There were chaotic scenes after a filibuster attempt fell just short and protesters cheered, clapped and shouted for the final 15 minutes as lawmakers tried to hold the vote before the session ended at midnight.
The filibuster by Sen. Wendy Davis, D-Fort Worth, lasted more than 10 hours but ended after three challenges to her speech were upheld.
Spectators in the Texas Senate chamber protest a halt to Sen. Wendy Davis' filibuster against an anti-abortion bill. The only way Democrats in the Republican-controlled Senate could defeat the measure was by not letting it come to a vote on Tuesday.
Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, acting as Senate president, initially said the voting began just before midnight, NBCDFW.com reported, and several reports suggested that the bill had been passed and would go to Gov. Rick Perry. But Dewhurst later announced that the vote had been held too late.

What about “if it saves one life?”
Miami Florida local news just did a story on this, PRAISING, by name, the Democrat state senator in Texas that filibustered the bill.
Rick Perry ought to have a special session called....make the Demon Rat pro-infanticide politicians miserable.
I suspect that is exactly what he will do. The fillibuster prevented a couple of other bills from being voted on. He will call a special session and this will be the first bill up for vote unless this warped individual can fillibuster for two weeks. Then, the legislature can move on to the other priorites. I would hope he even add some pro-gun bills which have already passed the House to the next session just to piss off the lefties.
How does a vote get shouted down? Do they only do voice votes in Texas? Where was security to get the chanters out of the chamber?
In other words he’ll pull a “Harry Reid” and use their own tactics against them...
Notice the Democrats used a REAL FILIBUSTER to promote infanticide.
Keep the Republicans in town, wait til the pro-infanticide hag goes home, then call it.
What about if it saves one life?
I for one don’t see legalized abortion ever going away in this country; as elsewhere in the world, those who avail themselves of it are simply and systematically replaced by those who don’t.
Wendy Davis won her election by mailing out cards stating republicans are racist.
I think he's already planning that.
They view abortion as we view the 2nd Amendment, i.e. “shall not be infringed” in any way, even having licensed doctors, clean facilities, etc.
Right out of Alinsky’s book for radicals. The RATS, prevented the majority’s voice from being heard.......while the massacre of babies continues.
Anyone supporting the murder of the most innocent will face wrath unlike the human mind can comprehend. JESUS warned all of us about the most innocent amongst us.
WHAT THE HELL WERE THEY DOING?!
The hyenas in the gallery should every single one be arrested:
42.05. DISRUPTING MEETING OR PROCESSION. (a) A person
commits an offense if, with intent to prevent or disrupt a lawful meeting, procession, or gathering, he obstructs or interferes with the meeting, procession, or gathering by physical action or verbal
(b) An offense under this section is a Class B misdemeanor.
Another reminder that the Democrats are the Party of death.
They're also the Party of chaos, disorder, and contempt for the rule of law.
“They’re also the Party of chaos, disorder, and contempt for the rule of law.”
Democrats push gun control as Obama said, "if it saves the life of one child," but killing babies is no big deal. "Pro choice" only applies to the mother. The baby has no choice, and its will to live is ignored. Sad.
The Democrats want gun control for one reason and one reason only:To disarm you[and me] in order for obama to complete the plans he and Democrats have for us safely with little or no risk for them. That plan is? Our deaths. Either by their police or mobs.
Rick Perry ought to have a special session called....
This was a special session called after the regular legislative session
ended May 27th, 2013. The Gov can call another or as many as he wants if he so desires.
Only in the diseased, perverted mind of a libtard "reporter", would someone describe a person blathering incoherently for 10 hours to prevent a vote to preserve life, "epic". I loathe these demented liberal vermin...
< The hyenas in the gallery should every single one be arrested:
42.05. DISRUPTING MEETING OR PROCESSION. (a) A person commits an offense if, with intent to prevent or disrupt a lawful meeting,... >
Is that from the Texas Statutes? In the Legislative section? Somehow I can’t see that applying to the the TX legislative gallery rules of decorum.
The Lege’s gallery makes the lawmakers conduct their business in public instead of all the “behind closed doors” crap that happens in D.C. And besides, you can’t beat it for entertainment value.
Raucous and rowdy; the reason we like to call them “The Lege!”
And the next Special Session that Perry is about to call? Just wait. We’ll see who fills the Gallery next time on this bill. Rally the troops!
How badly Satan wants to kill babies.
Bottom line: the mob won.
"Your body, you choice ends where your baby's body begins."
"They're also the Party of chaos, disorder, and contempt for the rule of law."
The Demonrats are also the party of treason.
< Bottom line: the mob won. >
This is Texas. Our mobs are bigger and we’ll get a ‘Redo’ to prove it.
This news story doesn’t say if the mob was there from the beginning or not. My guess is not. The Dems probably outdid us, once again, on using social media, especially after Obama’s tweet about it.
I just had dinner last night with one of my best girlfriends..she’s 21 weeks pregnant...I’m furious & disgusted by these soulless monsters. The GOP should play at their own game & fill the gallery with moms to be.. show what 20 weeks looks like.
Yes, that’s from the Texas Penal Code. And, no, there is NO exception for state legislative business. Free speech does NOT include disrupting the legislative session.
The mob included Demonicrat legislators. I watched the proceedings, and the anarchist lawmakers were inciting the mob in their lawbreaking.
The Democrats keep saying This is Democracy.
If we did this to bring bad legislation to a halt, they would demand we be arrested for terrorism.
Democratic Screamers were in the observers gallery. Security did not remove them.
Well these people are on record as loving the murder of babies. Let them reap what they have sewn. They have worked very hard for a culture of death and dehumanizing children.
Most were wearing TU burnt orange, the official uniform of Texas liberal baby killers.
Call ‘em back, Rick!
If Perry calls another session and gets this passed, I will walk through broken glass to vote for him for POTUS.
The Democratic Party is the Party of Death.
Abortion and Obamacare will see to it.
Real Christians do not support the DEMS in any way.
I was so pissed as I watched the whole debacle live. I couldn’t believe my eyes when it was quite evident that the Dem senators tried every move to delay the vote. And I was yelling at the idiot Repubs to watch the clock. Totally played.
The clown Dewhurst(sp?) tried to show that he was impartial and gave the Dems too many unwarranted points of order. I honestly think they (the Senate Repubs) didn’t want to pass this bill because Dewhurst is running to the left of Perry and wants to show he’s a moderate. What a maroon.
LOL! Look at the jihadist with the face mask.
Dewhurst’s comments this morning somewhat exonerated him. He was thoroughly disgusted with the mob last night, actually calling them a “mob” and comparing them to the OWS crowd of vagrants.
There was a lot of out of state OWS types.
< There was a lot of out of state OWS types. >
They don’t require a TX DL for admittance? That’s weird. Not good.
Despite their evil cause, the Rats play to win, the GOP, not so much. I am sure Perry will ask for a redo, but it makes you wonder if the GOPe has any courage or convictions.
