The U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling Wednesday striking down the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) is expected to have a broad financial impact on both federal and private employer spending as same-sex married couples become eligible for benefits previously denied them...

Currently there are an estimated 1,138 federal benefits provided on the basis of marital status. All of those benefits will now be available to same-sex married couples who reside in the 12 states where same-sex marriage is legal.

The government is about to grow exponentially. Unnatural “marriage” requires very expensive contortions.

Natural marriage actually limits government spending and control.

That scumbag lawyer, Dubois, said this morning that this decision would not hurt anyone and would not cost anything. It looks to me like the taxpayers took it in the shorts again.

Is there more risk with Same-sex?

IRS will have to redo lots of tax tables. Companies and Insurance benefits are going to have to adjust payouts based on each State. Welcome the news as more Companies move to limited Marriage than not. It will be an interesting year as Budgets and costs get working.

One of the side effects I expect is the shut down of far more Christian adoption agencies who don’t give children to gays. And businesses sued for not acquiescing to demands for services.

Can you imagine having to adjust your insurance cost to allow more people who engage in sexual activities that make you exponentially more susceptible to lifelong illnesses?

I work in software that does Payroll. Each state has its own rules. Now this will flow over to the IRS. The IRS cant select certain states to pay more like New Hampshire soo something will have to change.

South Carolina will probably be fight federal income tax if rates go up base on new benefit numbers.

Think about Welfare, SS, food stamps and all the other 1000+ programs. Budget talks will be interesting.

There is no need to hire more government employees. Doesn’t mean they won’t do it, however. Leftist propaganda wants us to believe there are hundreds of thousands of gays who are just waiting to get married but I don’t believe this.

We need to hit the Republican House, who control the pursestrings, now with demands that they not provide one penny more for the new benefits for gay couples (for all the good it will probably do)...

Gotta ditch the benefits. There are some 1500 different federal marriage benefits when there were virtually none prior to 1900.

Ditch the benefits and there will be no reason for turd burglars to get married.

Obamacare requires larger employers to provide affordable health insurance for employees. I don’t think it requires them to proved affordable insurance for the spouses and families. Let the games begin.

I think this will make more employers stop providing insurance. So far it’s for federal employees. But that’s just the beginning.

In Texas common law marriage is pretty strong. I wonder what would happen if a straight man and straight woman who work for the feds claims common law marriage and wants the spouse insured. Or, to push it even more, let a gay couple claim common law marriage.

Some benefits are unavoidable, for instance for military killed, employees being sent overseas, pension pay outs, medical care in remote countries, and such.

Most people can envision a very busy 40 year old SEAL with a family, needing some family considerations from the military both when he is alive, and if he quietly dies or disappears somewhere.

I believe common law marriage is recognized, as long as it is legal, either someone is married, or not.

“All of those Federal benefits will now be available to same-sex married couples who reside in the 12 states where same-sex marriage is legal.”

But what about the majority 38 states where same-sex marriages are not legal?

“Married” same sex couples from Massachusetts can't move to Florida, as in change permanent residency, and still access those “benefits” on a state level, can they?

IE, One votes and pays taxes in the state, county and local district one legally resides in.
In Florida, there is no state income tax for legal individual residents.
But if one is a legal resident of a state like Massachusetts, you can't vote here, in any election.
And your individual income would be taxable at Massachusetts rates, correct?

So a resident Florida couple can't legally get married in Massachusetts, come back to Florida, and have their “marriage” recognised in Florida.
They can move to Massachusetts, attain residency there, marry, and remain citizens of that state and the Feds won't give them any grief about it.

What they can't do is move to Florida, change their legal residency status back to Florida, pay no Massachusetts State and local income taxes, and still have their “marriage” be recognized here, or in any of the other 38 states.
