Hours after the Supreme Court ruling, the Pentagon announced that it would move to quickly extend all benefits given to opposite sex spouses to same-sex couples including medical, dental and housing allowances.
Defense officials also said that same sex spouses would have the same rights to be buried alongside war veterans buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
The Department of Defense, will move very swiftly, expeditiously, on implementing the law, the decision of the Supreme Court, said Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel. We think its the right decision, and were looking forward to taking that decision and implementing the required next steps.
The Pentagon also said within six to 12 weeks same-sex spouses will be give official identification cards that will entitle them to equal access to military bases, child care programs, military commissaries, gyms and other facilities open to military families.
One issue that could take longer to resolve is overseas tours. In some countries, like Germany and Japan, military service members are allowed to bring spouses with them. Defense officials said they are going to have to review local laws and bilateral military protection agreements with all countries before allowing same-sex spouses to accompany service members.
A defense official said the intent is to ensure equal treatment of same-sex spouses, but the department must ensure that gay family members have the same protections when travelling overseas.
Officials said they couldnt immediately say how much equalizing benefits will cost the department.

Send a bunch of them to muslim countries and let them bring their spouses.
Where is the DOD supposed to get the money for this?
No frickin way are these sodomties going to be buried next to our greatest heroes!
The inaction of God is weakening my faith. I have to keep reminding myself that He’s in charge and can do whatever He wants.
They’ve never moved that fast on anything before! Good grief!
God bless you.
Has anyone addressed how this will impact military law enforcement? Some of the most dangerous calls LEOs can get are domestic disputes. Out of those the most violent are gay/lesbian ones. For the most part military police never had to worry about those, until now.
What a world.
30 years ago, can you imagine that the RUSSIANS would have a flat tax, a POTUS for their hand puppet, and lead a nation that abhors homosexuality and opposes abortion?
And that AMERICA would stand up and cheer for such a situation?
This is what the gay rights agenda is all about — money.
Next stop for the military is transvestites and sex change operations.
No new policy should be implemented without a cost analysis
Is there a way this can be stopped before a budget study is done?
I hope the Westboro church protests. It will be the first time they get a majority of people to agree with them.
Omg, so glad my husband has retired. I can’t even imagine being on post and seeing this crap.
Like in Saudi Arabia?
Did they extend them to single people!!! If not! I now have a discrimination lawsuit.
Selling out at mach 2+
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
Thank God for sequestration; cut it to the bone if it is all just a social experiment. Islam is a divine punishment sent to warn us to mend our ways; we’re about to lose our second war to them in just a few short years, and our cities are already crawling with them.
Why is it all three branches of government seem to be moving in concert these past months?
I was forced out at age 60 after almost 40 years. I no longer regret the age limit now. I know some troops that long for retirement.
