Hours after the Supreme Court ruling, the Pentagon announced that it would move to quickly extend all benefits given to opposite sex spouses to same-sex couples including medical, dental and housing allowances.
Defense officials also said that same sex spouses would have the same rights to be buried alongside war veterans buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
The Department of Defense, will move very swiftly, expeditiously, on implementing the law, the decision of the Supreme Court, said Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel. We think its the right decision, and were looking forward to taking that decision and implementing the required next steps.
The Pentagon also said within six to 12 weeks same-sex spouses will be give official identification cards that will entitle them to equal access to military bases, child care programs, military commissaries, gyms and other facilities open to military families.
One issue that could take longer to resolve is overseas tours. In some countries, like Germany and Japan, military service members are allowed to bring spouses with them. Defense officials said they are going to have to review local laws and bilateral military protection agreements with all countries before allowing same-sex spouses to accompany service members.
A defense official said the intent is to ensure equal treatment of same-sex spouses, but the department must ensure that gay family members have the same protections when travelling overseas.
Officials said they couldnt immediately say how much equalizing benefits will cost the department.

“This once proud Nation had the greatest military in the world. It is being beaten not by outside enemies but by its own Government. The time of Americas demise is fast approaching..”
That’s a fact.
I am sickened by this. My dad is buried there, and I know exactly how he felt about that.
I simply can’t believe our country has come to this. It does feel like the end of days.
I wish the reset wouldn’t take place in my lifetime, but I feel pretty certain it will.
If this had gone our way, they would have waited until hell froze over before implementing anything.
I recognize they wouldn’t have had to change anything, but I think folks know what I mean. We passed Prop 8 in California. Was that implemented?
No. If 8 had gone down to defeat the wedding bells would have been ringing ten seconds later.
they are not spouses no matter what a g-damn court says.
a tail is not a leg.
and two plus two equals four, even if the party says it’s five.
Yet, the homosexual sexual toilet playthings will now be getting Billions in benefits. The military is buying equipment and tanks it does not want to satisfy greedy Congressmen and Senators of both parties. The Republicans have abandoned the loyal troops and DoD civilians, and the Democrats are marching the entire Dept of Defense into Hell itself.
He is not inactive. maybe he’s seeing what we will do about our country sliding towards sodom. see what kind of skin we’ll put in the game, so to speak.
this is troubling to seebut it doesn’t shakemy faith. this is theevil mnen and women do naturally. it is a sign things are close and His return iscloser than ever.
I understand your points, but sequestration is happening because we simply can’t afford to pay for it anymore. No reason I should work my arse off to maintain a military with no more sense of purpose, being sent overseas to try to re-make cultures thousands of years old, while I drive on streets resembling the main drag in Mogadishu while shedding the services my taxes used to pay for. What exactly is our military’s purpose in this “fundamentally changed” America?
The countries broke; NJ has laid of thousands of employees, and the feds have to do the same.
This governemnt is sick to the core.
Glad I served when I did...
I’d never do it again for this government .
wasting no time spending our money on things we don’t believe in. Again.
To start with, it is Obama's to own because his OMB Director Jack Lew proposed it. BUT, the Republicans overwhelmingly supported for it and voted for it. Secondly, the formula punishes the military with 50% of all cuts, but EXEMPTS entitlements, which are exploding and are the real causes of out debt and deficit. Thirdly, military pay and most contracts are off limits [and this will include the homosexual human toilets who call themselves "spouses" now]. That means that Operations and Maintenance money takes the brunt of the cuts......the life blood of the military. Sequestration inordinately punishes the loyal military patriots, harms the defense industry, devastates DoD civilians via furloughs, but rewards the takers: Food Stamps, EITC, TANF, Section 8, ObamaCare, you name it......EXEMPT from Sequestration.
I pray for a civil war. I’d rather die fighting than live a slave in a communist, fag-friendly soddom and gomorrha.
If it is any consolation the welfare parasites here in NJ have basically given up police protection in exchange for their food stamps. Any police left are dedicated to protecting the businesses that comprise their miniscule tax base. In the meantime the parasites keep killing each other...forward!
A sick, corrupt, degenerate government. That’s what we now have. True evil has overtaken it. All my years, I proudly would have taken a stand, and given my life for my country. Now I wouldn’t lift a finger for it. America has become a sick, perverted cesspool.
stop military pensions NOW....or make them not collect until age 60...do something to stop this almighty worship of their pensions that they would do so much evil in its name...
my mother and father have been spit upon with this ruling....both of them WW2 vets...
some who wanted the occupier to win the election just for spite...well, there are no words...
