The celebrity chef loses two more business partners hours after her Today interview.
Another two bite the dust.
Caesars Entertainment Corporations and Walmart have become the latest organizations to cut ties with former Food Network personality Paula Deen in the wake of a racial slur scandal.
Both groups made their announcements on Wednesday, just hours after Deen offered a tearful mea culpa in an interview with Matt Lauer on Today.
While we appreciate Paulas sincere apologies for statements she made in her past we have mutually decided that it is in the best interests of both parties to part ways at this time, said Jan Jones Blackhurst, executive vp communications and government affairs at Caesars Entertainment.
Caesars currently operates four Deen-themed restaurants at its casinos nationwide: Horseshoe Southern Indiana, Harrah's Tunica in Mississippi, Harrah's Joliet in Illinois and Harrah's Cherokee in North Carolina.
Walmart, meanwhile, put it simply: We are ending our relationship with Paula Deen Enterprises and we will not place new orders beyond those already committed.
While Deen has already been dropped by the Food Network and Smithfield Foods, which previously sold a ham with Deens name and face on the packaging, seven of Deens business partners have also voiced their support of the celebrity chef amid the critical firestorm.
"Her appearance on the Today show clearly proved her authentic belief that all people should be treated equal, read a statement from Epicurean Butter, which produces Deens Southern Grillin Butter. Paula is due equal treatment as well, as a person that made a mistake, apologized for it and should be allowed to move on. Actions speak louder than words, let's focus on the good that Paula Deen does for the extended community of loyal followers."
Deen remains embroiled in a discrimination lawsuit filed by a former restaurant employee, but has vehemently dismissed charges of racism. In a recently unearthed deposition, Deen admits to having used the N-word in the past, but claims that she would never use the term today.
I believe it’s time for Paula to create her own brand name and market her own wares. Most southerners are forgiving people, and they’ve already moved on to accept her. The media slams? They’ve spent more time over the last seven days covering her....than Benghazi. That really says a lot.
The media giveth; the media taketh away.
she can stew
Yet another stampede to the moral high ground.
That does it. In response I will never again gamble by buying my frozen pizzas at Walmart.
I’m a southerner. If the allegations by her employees are true than to hell with her.
Hey Paula, how is that white guilt, so I’ll vote for Obama supporter thing working out for you? That’s what I thought.
Harrah’s Casino in Cherokee, NC gave her restaurant there the boot today.
Let him without ever having used that bad N word cast the first souffle.
Theyve spent more time over the last seven days covering her....than Benghazi.
And Paula isn’t responsible for any deaths and she never lived in HymieTown.
And just when is Bill Maher going to get the boot for his remarks about Sarah Palin’s little boy? And, let’s not forget David Letterman. Is Paula a D or R?
Uhhmmm...it has nothing to do with the N word and everything to do with the way she and her brother handled their employees. They are disgusting and vile people.
If she would just shut up it might blow away. When it originally came up she should have said that it was part of a legal case and she was unable to comment.
Yeah, but if she didn’t say the N-word, most likely you wouldn’t have even heard of this story unless you dug for it.
Most of the problems she now has were caused by her brother, “Bubba”. The attorneys just threw in her past reference to the “n-word” to cement the case.
Now, it’s a feeding frenzy after her money.
Her biggest mistake of all was that feeble apology and all of the tears.
She should mimicked her hero, Obama, and said “I don’t know anything about this, but I’ll check into it and get back to you.”.
The left and the media loves to kick people when they are down, and the Jessie jacksons of the world are salivating to get their hands on some of her fortune.
I’d say “screw you all”, take my millions and move to Costa Rica and live like a king for the rest of my days, and hire someone else to cook for ME.
Yes, she can retire if she’s happy with what she has.
66 year old Paula Deen has a net worth of $10 Million.
No complaints here if it resulted in her being exposed for the racist that she appears to be.
Paula is an Obama supporter. Two yrs ago my father in law said he liked Bill Maher’s humor. I told him, as a strong practicing Catholic-how do you feel on his anti Christian ans Jewish views? And how do you feel about him calling Sarah Palin the C word? I’m divorced now. The in-laws didnot like my candor.
She already has her own brand.
I heard Dean speak at a Food Network event in Cleveland.
Funny, she didn’t talk about food at all...she just told filthy, foul-mouthed jokes that weren’t even funny.
What a sweat-hog.
Dear Paul, Shut up and cook!
Her latest cookbook that comes out in OCTOBER has jumped to #8 on Amazon since this mess started.
A real good first chapter would be quotes from the perfect people tearing her down.
That’s funny about Wal-Mart because when I worked at their Greenwood store we had an ex-carney empolyee that used all kinds of racial slurs, profanity, and sexual enuendos to all the emplyees on break. And these were not subtle!
It’s over Paula rebuild it can be done!
If they keep naming her onetime sponsors I will have a list and hey there’s a better ham out there some where! I never Shop At Wal-Mart, FN goodbye I never liked you any way!
the media taketh away.”
Actually it’s Moochelle that is probably behind the taking. One does not tell the world that the #1 Wookie ate fried food throughout the entire commercial and consumed more food than anyone ever had while she was on Deen’s program. Even if you start that sentence with “Bless her heart....
Ya said what I wanted to, but better.
I wasn’t a big fan of Paula Dean before this whole thing and don’t agree with what she said, but Walmart, Food Network, and Caesar’s are on my sh#t list.
I can’t get past the fact those who are dumping Dean over a word, use worse words than that and it’s ok.
I have never watched Paula, so I don’t know what kind of person she is. But this is so ridiculous... it’s childish.
I wouldn’t grovel for anyone.. that’s what she looked like in her apology. It did her no good anyway. We all know most use some kind of bad language at times in their lives, and to make such a big deal over it is that “political correctness” that has done so much damage.
Where in the world did so many have to walk so carefully and speak so correctly, if the person is black. Companies fire people over a word if it’s against one race, but not another? When did this start and why?
The media slams? Theyve spent more time over the last seven days covering her....than Benghazi. That really says a lot.
You got that right. Unbelievable. Now I will say that she deserves this not because of what she said, but the aftermath which is a mess. Her PR people need to be fired from this absolutely disaster. What she needs to do is go on vacation for six months and come back and get back on the horse. I don’t think she handled this well at all.
something I don’t understand..especially since her apology is why the viciousness towards her?? its wrong of course to use such language but others have and they didn’t get treated same way???
Then don’t work for her. It’s (sort of) a free country and I don’t believe Deen owns any slaves.
I wouldn’t pee on her if she was on fire. I’ve disliked her long before this. She is as phony as a $3 bill but keep giving her your hard earned money if you want.
Ask Rush Limbaugh and Don Imus! It is a sad PC world we live in. There are so many things I'd like to say but I do believe I would be kicked even off this forum.
“....she just told filthy, foul-mouthed jokes that werent even funny.”
At a Food Network event? That’s really kind of shocking to me. I would be appalled to have an experience like that.
Hubby and I were never fans of Ms. Deen, but what you describe is the last thing I’d have expected from her.
Damn good points. Instead of going on Today, she should have had her publicist issue a statement, offering a generic apology, and that she would be staying out of the public eye for an indeterminate time.
Within a few months, this kerfuffle would be on the ashheap of history. No doubt she'd still lose her commercial gigs, but she would have saved herself the Tammy Bakker-like spectacle.
I've never spent one dime on her books, or watched any of her shows. I've got no dog in the hunt, except for a bit of schadenfreude over another Obama-bot being thrown under the bus.
Never have bought any of her stuff. Actually watched her show several times but not recently. I think her accent is fake. I live in SC and we don’t sound like her. But she is self-made, worked hard and became successful. I admire that. That hypocritical idiots can destroy her makes me mad.
Deen has either been very clever or very lucky that the MSM has not mentioned him. Her n-word usage is chump change compared to his behavior at HER restaurant. She knows that virtually everyone has used the n-word a time or 2, therefore she will be forgiven quickly for this minor "mis-speak".
This n-word “controversy” is a ruse to avoid talking about Bubba. Unfortunately for Deen, her business partners have likely read the complaint & understand that the far bigger “sin” of Paula Deen is allowing her brother to abuse young people of both sexes & all races for YEARS, though she, her lawyer, & her CPA had received multiple complaints from employees.
Now, some people may think abusing restaurant workers is no big thing, but I would remind them that their children often work in restaurants while in school. Wait staff are usually young women.
Is this company, where porn videos are played openly in front of employees, a place you would want you children or grandchildren to work? Is it appropriate for your child's boss to grab him/her by the neck & scream obscenities? Is Bubba someone you would employ or someone you would fire immediately?
All of the above is alleged in the complaint, as is the alleged use of the n-word, & much more. If it is true, Paula Deen allowed this to go on for years - not such a sweet, charming, motherly thing to do.
Read the complaint. It's quite interesting. Notice that the n-word usage by PD is but a zit on this elephant's butt of a complaint. Also note that Deen is an Obama supporter. So, it makes sense that the Obama MSM would only report the smallest, least significant aspect of the lawsuit.
I watch everything I say/email/post. There are lots of things I’d like to say also. I’m old enough to remember Communism when it was in OTHER countries, and so thankful I lived in the UNITED STATES. This is not free America any more. Those who could have stopped this, would not. They walk carefully and speak correctly also. The anger that is among those who KNOW what is happening......
The younger generation do not know what they are going to live under if they continues to do that careful walk and correct speak.
Unimaginable that it was so easy.
