The celebrity chef loses two more business partners hours after her Today interview.
Another two bite the dust.
Caesars Entertainment Corporations and Walmart have become the latest organizations to cut ties with former Food Network personality Paula Deen in the wake of a racial slur scandal.
Both groups made their announcements on Wednesday, just hours after Deen offered a tearful mea culpa in an interview with Matt Lauer on Today.
While we appreciate Paulas sincere apologies for statements she made in her past we have mutually decided that it is in the best interests of both parties to part ways at this time, said Jan Jones Blackhurst, executive vp communications and government affairs at Caesars Entertainment.
Caesars currently operates four Deen-themed restaurants at its casinos nationwide: Horseshoe Southern Indiana, Harrah's Tunica in Mississippi, Harrah's Joliet in Illinois and Harrah's Cherokee in North Carolina.
Walmart, meanwhile, put it simply: We are ending our relationship with Paula Deen Enterprises and we will not place new orders beyond those already committed.
While Deen has already been dropped by the Food Network and Smithfield Foods, which previously sold a ham with Deens name and face on the packaging, seven of Deens business partners have also voiced their support of the celebrity chef amid the critical firestorm.
"Her appearance on the Today show clearly proved her authentic belief that all people should be treated equal, read a statement from Epicurean Butter, which produces Deens Southern Grillin Butter. Paula is due equal treatment as well, as a person that made a mistake, apologized for it and should be allowed to move on. Actions speak louder than words, let's focus on the good that Paula Deen does for the extended community of loyal followers."
Deen remains embroiled in a discrimination lawsuit filed by a former restaurant employee, but has vehemently dismissed charges of racism. In a recently unearthed deposition, Deen admits to having used the N-word in the past, but claims that she would never use the term today.
Paula is an Obama supporter. Two yrs ago my father in law said he liked Bill Maher’s humor. I told him, as a strong practicing Catholic-how do you feel on his anti Christian ans Jewish views? And how do you feel about him calling Sarah Palin the C word? I’m divorced now. The in-laws didnot like my candor.
She already has her own brand.
I heard Dean speak at a Food Network event in Cleveland.
Funny, she didn’t talk about food at all...she just told filthy, foul-mouthed jokes that weren’t even funny.
What a sweat-hog.
Dear Paul, Shut up and cook!
Her latest cookbook that comes out in OCTOBER has jumped to #8 on Amazon since this mess started.
A real good first chapter would be quotes from the perfect people tearing her down.
That’s funny about Wal-Mart because when I worked at their Greenwood store we had an ex-carney empolyee that used all kinds of racial slurs, profanity, and sexual enuendos to all the emplyees on break. And these were not subtle!
It’s over Paula rebuild it can be done!
If they keep naming her onetime sponsors I will have a list and hey there’s a better ham out there some where! I never Shop At Wal-Mart, FN goodbye I never liked you any way!
the media taketh away.”
Actually it’s Moochelle that is probably behind the taking. One does not tell the world that the #1 Wookie ate fried food throughout the entire commercial and consumed more food than anyone ever had while she was on Deen’s program. Even if you start that sentence with “Bless her heart....
Ya said what I wanted to, but better.
I wasn’t a big fan of Paula Dean before this whole thing and don’t agree with what she said, but Walmart, Food Network, and Caesar’s are on my sh#t list.
I can’t get past the fact those who are dumping Dean over a word, use worse words than that and it’s ok.
I have never watched Paula, so I don’t know what kind of person she is. But this is so ridiculous... it’s childish.
I wouldn’t grovel for anyone.. that’s what she looked like in her apology. It did her no good anyway. We all know most use some kind of bad language at times in their lives, and to make such a big deal over it is that “political correctness” that has done so much damage.
Where in the world did so many have to walk so carefully and speak so correctly, if the person is black. Companies fire people over a word if it’s against one race, but not another? When did this start and why?
The media slams? Theyve spent more time over the last seven days covering her....than Benghazi. That really says a lot.
You got that right. Unbelievable. Now I will say that she deserves this not because of what she said, but the aftermath which is a mess. Her PR people need to be fired from this absolutely disaster. What she needs to do is go on vacation for six months and come back and get back on the horse. I don’t think she handled this well at all.
something I don’t understand..especially since her apology is why the viciousness towards her?? its wrong of course to use such language but others have and they didn’t get treated same way???
Then don’t work for her. It’s (sort of) a free country and I don’t believe Deen owns any slaves.
I wouldn’t pee on her if she was on fire. I’ve disliked her long before this. She is as phony as a $3 bill but keep giving her your hard earned money if you want.
