GLENDALE, Ariz. -
Glendale police have confirmed that a F-16 fighter jet crashed in a desert area near Litchfield Road and Northern, not far from Luke Air Force base.
Authorities say two pilots ejected from the jet just before 7 p.m. They were transported to an area hospital with minor injuries and remain in stable condition. Their names have not been released.
The aircraft was a total loss and there's no immediate word on what caused the crash.
No injuries were reported on the ground.
Luke AFB is the world's largest F-16 training base.
This is a developing story. Stay with FOX 10 News for updates.
I listened/watched the videos from the media at the link. I don’t know what to say, or even where to start. So much ignorance and misinformation about basic aviation it is scary and disappointing at the same time.
Glad these young warriors are unharmed, though.
The F 16 is a single seat fighter. Is there a two seat version?
Official two seat F-16 models (Those in production or out of production. Not future versions.): B, D, F.
Yes. For the original F-16A and F-16B, the F-16B was a two-seater. Later with the F-16C and D, the D-model is a two-seater (nicknamed “the family model”).
Yeah, the aviation knowledge was pretty shaky by the News 10 crew there.
Sounds like the jet had an engine problem. A guy on the ground said he saw sparks and fire coming out the back and was hearing popping noises just as the guys punched out.
One of the drawbacks of the Internet Age is that everybody thinks they know everything because they "read about it online once." The Left has been very skilled at exploiting this human failing by using disinformation to push their agenda.
The “military expert” (and any other “expert”) in a news agency got that title because that desk was vacant when they hired on. People just believe it, it is so pathetic.
Yes. . the version they use for training.
